I bought the Braided hose and all the speedflow fittings to use as tranny lines on the LX, I was hoping to get the car all back together this weekend but for the Fooking life of me I cant get the braided hose to slide into the fittings!!!.

When the Auto shop cut the hose its not been cut clean enough and even when putting in one side at and angle and then pushing the other side in with a flat screwdriver( as per clip I seen on here) it still will not go in!!,GRRRRRRRRR!!!!, its driving me mad. I dont really have anything good enough here to recut the ends cleaner and I rhink it might be too short if I cut anymore off,is there some way to make it easy to get the hose in the fittings even though the braid is now flared out somewhat?.

This is the type of fitting and hose I have but cant get the fittings on!,I shoulda told the shop to peice it all together but as it was ,sent me broke as it is....

If the shop cut the hose wrong, get them to replace it.

yeah they can be a bitch..i've done heaps over the years an i've always done it like in that video but i wrap tape around the hose and cut it with a very thin cutting disc mounted on a bench grinder and i use CRC or WD40

there is an assembly tool called Kool Tool made for putting the collars on the hose but dont think anyone sells em in OZ

its just patience and youll get better at it

Ya should have bought Aeroflow fittings and braided -6 teflon. Easiest hoses to make I have ever done.
I tape the cut point with insulation tape, cut it with a thin disc on the grinder, remove tape and bingo, ready to take fittings.
I have never had one leak yet and I have made heaps of them.

The hose is listed on my reciept as -6 High Performance Hose.

I dont know how these guys cut the hose but its been done TERRIBLY,I was collecting these bits on Work time so was in a hurry like no tomorrow and chucked it all in my bag,I get home ant try to fit the Anodized Fittings for over and hour and gave up,I cant even get 1 on !!. I'll have to tape them and cut with a thin grinder blade as you guys suggest

This is the hose I bought,in -6

yes ..you can wrap the very end of the hose with insulation tape or cloth tape and cut it 10-15 mm from the end that way you wont lose much hose

This is one way of fitting hose ends.

You can also buy a hose assembly tool to make it easy to get the hose into the fitting.

I have seen the Koul Tools on the shelf at A1 Hi Performance in Myaree. They may be able to just put the ends on for you. Enzed should also be able to assemble the hoses.

Its a practice thing, when l first tried l thought that it was impossible too. If you have belled the end of the braid there may be no solution but to trim the hose again. You need to start the hose into the fitting square or close to square, a very fine blade screwdriver may help to poke in the last of the braid and sharp side cutters can trim off any stray strands of wire. A little oil on the inside of the hose wont hurt either. The first ones will be the hardest but once you get a few done it will become a whole lot easier.

I put tape on an end of one and cut with a 1mm blade on a 4" grinder then wrestled it in the fitting,my cut wasnt exactly square and the male parts was really quite hard to screw on after about half way?.I'll get a professional to dp the other 3 unless a fellow Perth member can help?,its too expensive to ruin!!.

There not exactly designed to be done with the bare hands...

As said, tape and cut it with a grinder, i find insulation tape melts so i use masking tape. I have alloy an fitting vise jaws and the alloy non scratch an spannners, but you can just use the vice an a normal spanner easilly enough.

Start with the coller for the fitting upside down in the vice, wiggle the hose in as far as you can, then pull it out, grab the line by the hose about 2" down from the collet and start spinning it while pushing down. Regrab the collet in the vice and screw the middle bit in. Pieceapiss after you have done 50 or so lol.

Yep +1 for a 1mm cut off disk on a grinder after the hose is taped. Use anti-seize or similar on the threads as well.

If the steel braid is flared you may be able to use something similar to a tapered piston ring compressor to compressthe braid back into the hose end

ive been doing it with a thin cut off disc for year but a coupke of weeks ago i bought the braided hose cutters, best thing i have ever bought, tha braid doesnt flare at all, and cutter worth about 80 bucks, but if you intend on doing a few it will be money well spent

just thought i would drag this thread back up, i made 4 hoses today in about 30 mins(first timer), taped, cut with a hacksaw(new blade) pop the collar on. PBR rubber grease on the barb and it slides into the hose super easy. didnt even need to use the vice. just did it by hand with a couple of spanners.

i think the PBR rubber grease works a treat
my 2 cents

What size hose did you make?

The smaller the hose the harder it gets. Making your first hose with -6 as the OP did was always going to be a challenge.
