Before I fit up the new alloy radiator ,I have the water pump off and going to TRY get as much crap flushed out the block as possible, whats the best way of doing this??.

Just shove the hose on full ball into the block openings where the water pump lives perhaps??,I then have to somehow remove all the water from the block so I dont Dillute the new Coolant ,just jack up the back of the car high as it will go??

Also bought one of those TEBFA RADIATOR FILTERS yesterday, not cheap but wish I used one previously!

If you still have the old radiator fitted, it makes it a bit easyer, put a bottle of radiator flush through it, let it run for a while, drain it out.

Seeing though it seems your car is apart then i cant see why your idea wont work.

I wouldnt be worried about the bit of water still in the block diluting the coolant personally. But there shoul be a drain bung on the block, generally located in the absolute hardest spot to get to. Most of it will run back out o the water pump openings though.

Cheers.

And don't forget the flush the system with the heater on (if it's got a heater connected)

Fleetguard have a cleaner that works fairly well (unlike some of the automotive products) called Restore. Ideally you'd drive it for a few days with the Restore in the system, then remove the thermostat and the water pump and then back flush it. Connect your garden hose to the top rad. hose or the thermo housing (pretty easy with about 600 metres of duct tape) and turn the water on full. I've used it a few times to clean out contaminated systems and it works well, especially if you can leave it in for a few days. As Bomber says, the little bit of water left behind won't be enough to matter.

i just back flush with the hose
but when i did work exp they had a flash fitting one powered by the hose and a air line
fyi i use catrol rad inhibitor which you just add to the water i find it better and cheaper than the pre mixed stuff

As per my original post I bought one simliar already...

I cant really use one of those radiator flush products now as my car is all apart, guys at work said you use to be able to buy some sort od adaptor that you plug your garden hose into and an airline and it pushes all the crap out the block,I couldnt find such an item anywhere?.

Considering every time you start the engine you have a lot more water flowing through than a hose can provide, your really not going to achieve anything, i dont recon.

The best way to flush the block is to remove the welsh plugs and get the hose on full in there, I have seen over one inch deep of orange sludge on motors I have done with years of service life.

^ if that is too much work to remove the welsh plugs then at least locate the drain plug and remove it.

You can remove the Welsh Plugs easy enough, and they are relatively easy to install. Can't hire a high pressure gerni?

just had a google and found the block drains, indeed they do not want to budge, the Welsh Plugs look to be( in my case) too hard to get in/out cause of my extractors......even if I unbolt them.

I'll either just rely on the new radiator filter and constantly check or hire a pressure cleaner?

Drain bungs come out easy, just hard to get to.

I'd be just checking the filter every now and then, or pulling the engine out an doing it properly :D

I dont know how you guys get those wwelsh plugs out when the motor is still installed in the car!, in particular one either side right behind the Engine mounts, theres no room to bang in the new ones, even if you managed to wrestle out the old plugs??..

If you're going to replace welsh plugs, replace them all. That includes the ones at the back of the block. I'd like to see somebody replace those in-car.
