Its a bang for buck argument; you will definitely notice an improvement with a better ignition system. The MSD 6 setups are pretty good and barring any bad luck it will last you forever, but its quite costly.

An MSD with a standard points distributor will work OK. The points just trigger the MSD they will last alot longer as they no longer have to carry the same voltage. Also the dewll or gap is also not critical with an MSD, the points closed time is no longer used to saturate the coil. Mount the box somewhere away from heat, but preferably out of the cabin as they make an audible buzzing noise. Benefits are that plugs last longer, smoother idle and easy starting. But if your on a budget l'd say save the cost of a new dissy for another day.

I have found simple is usually more reliable and have had great luck with modified stock Bosch HEI dizzies.

I would agree. If your on a budget I would go with a Bosch HEI as well. I bought a Bosch HEI 2nd hand $100, got it regraphed which cost me $100, so $200 all up. These dizzy's are great dizzy's and last for years. They also handle some pretty good horsepower as well. I am pushing 400 FWHP and the dizzy was super on the dyno.

Another vote for the factory bosch dizzy. Cheap, reliable and throw big deep long sparks.

If you have a factory electronic distributor then put it in a box and post it to Performance Ignitions http://www.performanceignition.com.au/ and rest easy. A service and regraph is about $150 and is money well spent.

This is all I use in my 600HP (flywheel) 400 SBC and 560HP (at the wheels) blown SBC. I honestly don't see any reason to complicate it.

When I took mine in to them before christmas his first comment was "at least its a genuine one". Apparently they are seeing lots of cheap copies sent in for poor performance, particularly light throttle pinging. He did say that the cheap copies multiple issues could usually be fixed for $330. Not bad for something that can be as cheap as $70 on ebay.

ice ignitions are very expensive compared to msd. the best thing i did was get rid of my bosch hei for a msd pro billet and a digital 6 box.

If you've got 500 to spend buy an MSD if you have got that much buy a Bosch on Ebay or something and just get it regraphed for your specs.

Yeah I've got the money but what to buy there's so many different ways, I could use my dizzy and get a 6al box and coil, or get a bro billet and the street fire series ignition and coil?
