4L60e vs 4L65e turbo 700

I had originally chosen to go a turbo 350 in my hatch behind a mild small block. I have been told that the number within the gearbox part number relates to the torque it was built to handle. The 4L65e box is significantly more expensive and only handles 8% more torque.
I'm wanting to go electronic and am not going to pit any shift kits in it. So do you think the 4L60e would handle the small block as a cruiser with the odd plant of the foot? If so, are any particular models better i.e vt or vz?
Also, anyone have experience with converting these types of box to push button?
Cheers
Tom

4l80e is a huge box.say good bye to your trans tunnel!
a th700r4 hydro box is your best bet behind a sbc.but they wont last with big power for to long

4L65E is a much stronger box that an older 4L60 or 4L60E. They were used in Crewman, Cross8, tonner etc.
Wholesale Automatics do shift computers for the 4L80E, they'd probably do the 6L80E too. Give them a call.

I'll throw a curve ball into play now - How about a T400 with a GearVendors Overdrive unit behind it?

The 6l80e out of the ve are garbage if you have big power and a decent converter.
Either box will be a nightmare/stupidly expensive to use with out a factory computer.
I'd stick with a turbo350 and just let it rev.

Hmmm.
I'm happy to run standard computer. I just want something that fits, that doesn't rev hard, bolts up to a sbc, and will not break. I think it's too much to ask for though. Havnt thought about the 400 with the overdrive. Will look into it.

you can also get a 4l65e behindI don't think you could get a 4L65E behind a 304 or 350 Holden V8. I think they only appeared in VY tonners and crewman. AFAIK they bolt up, just like a TH400 will to an LS1. I think there is some sort of converter mod or adapter but the housing pattern should be the same. I don't think the 4L65E is that weak. They handle the 2tonne of a VZ Avalanche with 360hp 350ftlbs and tow 2.5tonne as well! They aren't as good as the 8000lb boxes (3L80 (TH400), 4L80E or 6L80E) but are pretty good compared to the old 4L60 (TH700R4).
hsv's / series 2 monaro's
but yeah basicly just a standard box with corvette servos and bands
not a real big improvement over a standard t700

There are several options, Painless Performance is one of them.

They are already eating valve bodies
Since they have no 1:1 gear they are always turning on the planetaries ... which means something always moving and wearing
I'd ignore that one unless your willing to do alot of programming and future rebuilding
For a mild smallblock you won't need to get too fancy and any of the above mentioned boxes would be more than adequate
I'd personally go for a cable driven TH700R4
Infact thats what I was thinking of using behind a 202 in my SS with a 3.9 final drive banjo

Sorry I meant 4L60-e from the 304.
Hmmm.

Im sure there would be plenty of vette's and the like that ran this box behind a modern small block.

the parts to build the th700 very strong are about $700 US then you gotta pay for labour unless you do it yourself

I'm happy to try one of the 4L60-E boxes, at least to start with.
Next part, does anyone have experience with push button auto's. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the shifters to box (Havnt looked myself yet)?
Cheers
