Hey guys,

I currently run a 2.5inch twin cat back system on my VX SS. I recently bought a stainless 3inch muffler which I want to mate onto it because its pretty lol. Now my issue is, will I have any problems dumping the 2.5inch into the 3inch?
Also, the current redback system is one of those slide on ones and is clamped. For me to run the new muffler, it has a 3bolt flange. If I have a 3 bolt flange welded on to the 2.5inch thats currently there, will the bolts line up, or being the smaller diameter tube, will the 2.5inch flange be smaller, or are they the same size, just smaller holes in them?

By 3 bolt flange, I mean this type:

I dunno if this makes sense lol, but maybe someone who has worked with exhausts may know.

Cheers!!

talk to a exhaust shop
they should be able to make up a "reducer" before the flange and after the muffler

Sorry forgot to mention its for the rear muffler. Its got the flange, muffler, then tips.

I was thinking they would be able to use another 3inch flange, and as you said make a reducer to the 2.5. Is this done regularly?

Ill go see an exhaust shop tomorrow, but want to go in with an idea of what i want lol.

those type of flanges are probably going to be different,

I'd get a reducer pipe made up.

So buy a 3" flange and have a pipe expanded from 2.5-3" to suit, weld it onto the end of your catback and the flange, that then bolts to the rear muffler.

Geeze,Mitch...you built the Torailer...make yourself a flange to suit, and weld it on.

Willing to come up to the coast for a cruise?

Have you got the flanges already?

Including the drive up, it'll be cheaper to come see us :)

Or you could cut it out of a bit of plate if you have access to a drillpress,a 2 1/2 inch holesaw,a 1/2 inch drillbit and an angle grinder.

Just go slow on the holesaw and use some cutting fluid.

Nah havent got the flanges. No idea where to get them from to be honest. The new muffler has the flange, i just need one to suit and then id have a go a making up a reducer and piecing it together. What size is the minimum for a flange to be if i was to make on up myself? The one on the new muffler is about 10mm is that the norm?

10mm thick would be fine.

I wouldnt worry about reducers, just mark the new flange out to the same centers as the 3 inch flange, and put 2 1/2 inch holes in it.

^ Agree, even still, chop the old muffler flange about 2" back and use that as the adapter.

This is where is needs to go.

This is the new one.

Just looking at it im seeing that the current system is going to need to be spread apart to meet the new one, as well as have a new flange put on to get it to fit right.

The new muffler is a twin 3" in and out varex electronic mufffler. The varex system works, both valves work and its a neat stainless muffler, but is it gonna be too much work to make it fit for not much gain? Just the ability to quiten it down?

I paid $30 for it with all wiring and remote so its ready to go. Do i just sell it and make a profit or try and make it work. Iv also heard these systems are shit.

Sell i

Sell it. Looks like someone has heated and bent the pipe or it has been banged around a bit. Never been a fan of varex junk tbh.
