If the paint has not had time to cure it will clog the paper; as per the thumb nail test.

yeah thats right although acrylic lacquer dries fairly quick and you can sand a run out after about 30 minutes or so it never really dries if you scrap some acrylic lacquer of with a razor blade and put it in a jar and mix it with some acrylic thinner it will go back into paint,,,, the same if you drop some thinner on to a surface painted with acrylic laquer it will melt in you wont be able to wipe it off iwas told you really dont have to sand acrylic lacquer for adhesian only to get the surface smooth of imperfections as the new coats of acrylic lacquer will melt in any way because ther is so much thinner in it and acrylic lacquer thinner is fairly harsh thinner ,,,but were always learning (lol)about painting and different tecniques and so on

Another quick question guys...
I've taken a new approach and sanding panels through the week and spraying in the 3-4 hour window on the weekwnds when the humidity is at 50-60% humidity.
Now the question...
I've read somewhere and I tried finding it, that you sand and wait a while that you could have adhesion probs, so you can scuff it up with some scotchbrite or some kinda pad before hitting it, anybody know what I can use? Cheers

you can get the grey scotchbrite at auto/paint stores and i'm sure i've seen em at bunnings
they don't do much imo as they are very fine but whatever floats your boat...
personally i'd just prepsol and tack rag it just before hitting it with paint
as you should anyway
but really a couple of days shouldn't matter

Well I prepsol it and tack it before I spray anyway, I just thought I'd have problems as peeps have said on other forums

no you should be ok once you have sanded the surface once it should be right to go,,, but you could give it a quick scuff with 800 just to clean it or the scuff pads would also do the job ,,adhesion shouldnt be an issue the new paint will melt into the exsisting paint
,,lacquer really bites in because of the high volume of thinner in it,,,,.hence why you have to give it plenty of time to gas off

Thanks for the info mate, I tell you what, thank god for you guys who have helped or I'd be frOckin things up left right n centre throwin shit all around the garage and would have just paid a smash repairs joint to do it, thanks for your help guys

The adhesion issue thing stems from 2k primers, its best to top coat within about 48 hours or so of applying the last coat of surfacer.
Not relative to acrylic.
The thing that annoys me most about paint advice over forums is people keep forgetting about the paint system in question and belt out any old info.

Does anyone know much about automotive waterborne paints. I've seen a few vids on Youtube USA and it seems like a safe alternative to 2K but not yet popular in Aust. I can get the product but it seems its only the panel shops that keep the tinters to tint their own colours. I can't find a paint shop in Perth that can mix me colours.
