My daily driver is a 1998 VS Commodore ute that I have fitted with a 3.8ltr L67 supercharged V6. The engine was factory fitted & removed from a 1997 VS Caprice. Most people will know that the VS series came with a S/C V6 option as well as a 5.0ltr V8 option, a 185kw HSV engine was optional too. The factory L67 S/C V6 is rated at 171kw, so I have not exceeded the 15% power increase, I have checked with the NSW RMS/RTA concerning the legality of my conversion & they stated it does not need an engineer report & is deemed an owner certified engine swap. The problem I have is the registration expires on 5th March & I can't find an authorised inspection station that will sign off on the new engine, they either don't want to do it or they insist I need an engineer report. The car is IMO 100% roadworthy, no fluid leaks, near new tyres, whisper quiet standard exhaust etc & as mentioned, RMS have no problem with the engine swap. Can any one suggest or know of an inspection station in Sydney that will sign off on my car?

No, & to add to my issues, i'm in the process of fitting a second hand LS1 to my wife's VX Calais because the original one succumbed to the LS1 plague of oil consumption. I'm certain that even though i'm replacing one engine with another of the same make/vintage etc, i'll have similar problems. Even though it clearly states on the VIN tag the car came from Holden with an LS1, from the narrow minded responses I've had from these guys, I won't be surprised in the least if that'll need a comprehensive engineers report & a stack of paper work. Thankfully that car is registered until May so I have some time up my sleeve.

Seriously sounds like you could walk into Holden, order a brand new car, and get a phone call a week later saying "sir, we will need you to get a comprehensive engineers report on your new car before we can register it for you".....

Picton exhuast i used to get to do my blue slips although i havn`t used him for years. He used to do alot of the big boys cars that only wanted them registered to run in the street registered class.
Cheers Mark.

Hey Matt,
This is out of control If you were on the west coast i could steer you in the right direction ,surely some one knows of a good decent inspection centre Sydney is a bloody big place .

On a side note what is replacing the engine in your silver torrie ?

It is very frustrating, considering everything I've fitted to the car was factory fitment to this model by GMH.

Hey Garth, another Holden V8 is replacing the current one, that is if it sells. If it works out to plan, should be something special, will keep you posted.

Matt..
Give wattle service station a try.

It is located at 114 boundary rd , peakhurst.

I got my Torana engine swap (6 to an 8) as well as blue slip inspection.

The guy there is pretty reasonable.

Only drama i can see is that holden did not offer a VS supercharged 6 ute, however that realy should be a no drama as offered in sedans.

I used O'Donnell's Auto at 399 forest Road, Penshurst, talk to Tony, Ph:0430451750
I took my SS there last week, he is very friendly and understands conversions, he actually owns a supercharged 4 wheel drive.
Although I had to fix a few things to get the slip, they weren't major and he was very helpful.

I used Waminda Service Centre, Waminda Avenue, Campbelltown for both the Torana and Torailer. They get a few rods and conversions through there and own a few themselves. Real easy going, Aussie blokes that love a chat. That was my experience a couple of years ago.

i think the RTA say you should go to the closest inspection station (that has blue slips) to your residence.

They may say that but you can get them from anywhere you like. I got mine south of Wollongong, I live in Sydney.

that rule generally only applies to unregistered (and therefore uninsured) vehicles being driven for their blue slip inspection.

The blue slip that Matt is asking about is a change of records check, bit different.

If you drive it unregistered yes best to stick to the closest but you could get it towed or get an unregistered vehicle permit to drive it around for a month to get it fixed.

been there, done that, got the lecture from the police man. haha.

If you are picked up driving an unregistered vehicle to an inspection station, via a route that takes you past about 5 others on the way.... you're gunna have a baaaad time.

No fine, just a stern talking to (I did have a P plate where the number plates should go though, made me more of a target)

That depends on the officer. I drove mine to my nearest inspection station in the old days when you had to go to the RTA pits.

I got pulled over 2 blocks short of the RTA, the cop told me I wouldn't pass because I didn't have a driver's side mirror and fined me for driving unregistered and uninsured.

:(
