Howdy all been a while since i posted, but have been reading members projects to get inspired again. Sooooo got out in the shed and started sanding back the beaver panel rust and am finding a shipload of bog. Reckon im better off replacing it. Question is how/where do i cut the old one out, or are they spot welded. Does anyone know if the rares replacement needs cutting and chopping at all to make it fit? Any pics or links would be great, cheers.

Yes the Rares item needs cutting at either end (sides of the car) and unfortunately doesn't wrap around enough at the folds top and bottom either so it needs joining mid panel.
I cut the old panel out to the edge/fold and placed the new one under it so the weld was actually on the fold making it easy to grind and avoiding any warping. On the bottom I measured the depth and drilled out the spot welds from the floor and attached the edge of the original piece to the new panel before reinstalling by plug welding the spot holes. The sides are pretty straight forward once trimmed to suit although I think I did a little hammer and dolly work to get the curves to meet nicely. Also don't forget to drill some holes and plug weld to the chassis rails. I think it turned out OK:

Yes, a bit pricier but definitely much much nicer on the bottom edge. Plus they say its 1mm thick (although doesn't look it?)

I usually get mine rolled up at a local sheet metal place. It's not a big job. It comes in 2 halves & cost me about $60.
