yes, they were called super sedans,i think,up to 3 weeks ago i never heard of them, but seems like the xu1 i have is 1 of them,so before i restore it im trying to find out,if is race car i will restore it back to race specs, brad merrick in melbourne is doing the restore.

I dought very much if your car is ex speedway dirt car as they would not be restorable to street use and it would not be a super sedan as they were all hand made chassi's and fibreglass bodies if you can post a photo of your car i would know if it raced at liverpool as i raced there for 16 years

There was Sports Sedans, as in Beast 2 that HDT Raced the V8 LC HDT Car that was updated to look like a LJ with the F5000 308 V8 Engine in it, that Brocky drove and Brian Thompson raced the yellow LC GTR V8 Torana, there were a few Sports Sedans back in 1972 to 1980's they raced them.

Any photos of this old girl? Raced mainly in Newcastle area 1976-77, by Bruno Landkauf as #147 (Australian Saloon Car Federation), then sold to and raced by Wayne Young in same area. Later sold to Doug Hawkins (ex Bathurst driver) and raced by special permission in 1985 season at Gunnedah area. It was by special permission as it had a square roll cage.

There are quite a few original sports sedans about.
Post as many pics as you can......including underneath. There should still be some tell ale ndicators, no matter what you've done to it.
Did you bare metal it for the resto? No? Then gently take to it with the sander and take it back layer by layer to show old paint colours, taking pics at every stage.
Then post them up!

Grant..

Did it start life as a series production car in 1972? I have some photos in older magazines of (what I think is) the Pat Cullen purple LJ series prod car.

interesting..iam researching Pat Cullens Garage and how much involvement Peter Crick had with that dealership as my xu1 was sold there 17th may 1972 it to had flared guards and roll cage holes as well, during resto it was discovered it had a huge hit along whole drivers side and had till i got it 2 sets of 1/4s on both  sides with both front and rear lower control arms replaced on drivers side

17/5/72 H232963

17/5/72 H233021

24/5/72 H233999

above was all sold by Dealer 617  Pat Cullens Garage in May 1972

know this an old thread but thought i bump it to see if jasonxyz still about and can add anything

That Monaro coupe looks like it’s got a Z28 cross ram intake on it.
