Hi all, am at the point of installing my recoed 186 nin my lj, but im finding the plate the bolts to the torque converter, will not fit my 186. Im using the plate of a 173, i assumed it was a simple swap over, what can I do to ectify this problem? do I have to remove crank, or can I simply buy a new plate? The old motor had a centering point on the crank to align the plate if that ,makes sense, which is seen in the 2nd photo

Are the bolts not lining up?  From memory the bolt holes are not evenly spaced so you have to turn the flexplate around until it lines up properly.

gdau gunmetal, they do not appear to line up at all, on the 173 i removced the flex plate from, it lines up, no worries, but not so with the 186. Are all the flex plates from red motors all the same? im trying to find info on the net, but no luck so far

That centering point on the crank, is a automatics spigot bush. You need to remove it from the 173 and put it on the 186, It should come out easily. The 173 flexy plate should bolt up.
