Hey guys,

Ive gota holden 186 in my ski boat and ive done a exhaust valve on it. Now my problem is Im not sure if they are just stock valves or if they are bigger aftermarket ones. Since nobody stocks them anymore its not as simple as taking it into the shop and comparing it to a new one. So Im hoping if I can give you some measurements somebody can tell me if they are the standard size or different.

I do appologise in advance for the measurments being in mm.

The valve is 115.1 mm long, the stem of the valve is 8.6mm in diameter and the valve end is 35.9mm in diameter.

Im would have thought I would have been able to find some soec sheets on the net somewhere but have had no luck.

If anybody has some info that would be great.

cheers

Precision doesnt list anything suitable for a drop in, EX6711 looks closest?

http://www.precision...ID=611&EID=1406

Appears to be bigger than stock.

Just for us old farts, your measurements are

Stem .339

Head 1.413

Length 4.53

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it. So as I supsected there bigger than standard. I double checked my measurements and there spot on with what I put first up. As you said, the EX6711 looks to be the closest but isn't going to fit. Where does this leave me? What are the odds of another manufacturer making a valve the same size as I have? And what are my other alternatives If I cannot find a matching size one?

Hi L_X_Hatch,

Have a look at the Holden V8 5000 exaust valve, they were the popular ones to put in the 186 head. Dave I

Just take the head in and have all the exhaust valves replaced with slightly larger valves if you can't find an exact match for the existing valves.

You don't say what actually happened to the valve, but I imagine that it has burnt, if that's the case, then the seat will need cutting so go to the larger valves.

Yeah the valve is burnt. It doesn't look like I can find anything matching, so bigger valves look like the answer.

Your head guy should be able to find a valve for you, or if necessary trim one down that's only a tad bigger eg. a blue motor valve.
