Hey have done a bit of a search and couldn't find a definite answer. Had a mate who is a mechanic over today to help with the re-assembly of my motor. We ran into a heap of problems while doing it and he seems to think that I have a hq/wb motor not a torana one. Here is what leads us to this conclusion.

   - oil sump is way too big at the rear of the motor and wont go near touching the seal and the front of it wont go over the seal and on the page where I got the sump from, says it wont fit that style of motor

   - purchased an engine bolt kit from ebay/rare spares and the bolts are bigger than the originals and wont screw in without force and I don't want to go snapping one. Not sure if there is a difference between the 2 different motors but cannot see why there should be.

The day has just done my head in and after the weekend I have had after crashing up the arse of a patrol towing a trailer with my Colorado doing about 60km/h I am about to give up on the lot.

Is there a difference in the motors? My engine number is QT135***

Also the inlet manifold set of bolts came with 4 longer bolts which don't go in all the way in any of the holes.

Any suggestions??

OK just found this and mine has a neoprene rear main. 308 on side.

So should there be a size difference on bolts and the oil pan ends?

QT prefix means you have a HQ-late HZ motor and you ideally need a different sump.

What bolts aren't fitting? Remember you're probably dealing with a 40 year old engine block, they may have modified / retapped them over the years.

measured the old bolts against the new with digital verniers and the new bolts are close to half a mill bigger.

Will post up some pics soon

Are the new ones from ebay metric cause the block would be imperial ??

I'm probably wrong but it sounds like you have a Commodore sump that you are trying to fit on backwards so the deep part of the sump is at the rear like a HQ-WB and LH-LX.

All should use the same bolts, 1/4" for the most part with a pair of larger 5/16" at either end - sounds like you may have simply been supplied the wrong ones. Commodore sump on backwards sounds like a possibility, any HQ-WB sump should fit just fine.

I'd put money on you having a Commodore sump.

Your engine is a HQ engine, so will be neoprene rear main seal. Doesn't affect the sump though.

Extra bolts n the inlet set will be blue-black motor centre bolts.

Ok looks like I do have the wrong sump. New problem, the gasket doesn't seem to fit properly. The end on the timing cover seems to fit fine but the rear section is bigger allowing the gasket to have a space under it as though it is too big. Will get some pics up tomorrow to show you what I mean. I have both the 1 piece and the 4 piece gasket sets and both have the same issue, Getting frustrated.

in this first pic is the one piece seal/gasket and it is at the rear main end

the second pic here is the ACL cork/rubber seal kit and this time it is the timing cover which is a KC Castings one...

My question is, would these compress down enough with the pan on or would they still leak??
