Will an M20 fit straight into a UC, replacing a Trimatic?
Will the transmission tunnel 'hole' have to be modified to accept shifter on the 4 sp?
Have 4 sp, with bellhousing to suit red motor, shifter and pedals... just want to know what else (apart from cable of course) is required...
Thanks! :spoton:

And do I need a shorter/longer tailshaft, or can I use the one behind the auto?

Will I need to drill a hole for the cable in the firewall?

Hi knoath.

Probably the easiest conversion there is.

The rear mount is the same & in the same position, tailshaft length & yoke are the same. The hole in the floor is the same, even the screws for the gearshift boot go into the original T-Bar mounting holes. Speedo cable & gear is the same.

Only stuffing around is fitting the pedal set-up & clutch linkage/cable, but it all bolts in.

By the rear mount, do you mean the gearbox crossmember?

The UC clutch pedal arrangment is a full cable setup. Therefore the hole is already in the firewall just pull the bung out, bolt the pedals in a hook up the cable and adjust the cable. No silly linkage to worry about adjusting its all very easy.

yoke is same
only prob you may run into is bellhousing which type do you have?
the one out of a commie will accomodate the cable or you can get the (mini rattrap) off a hj kinga to use on earlier housing.

Hi Guys.

Peter UC said "The UC clutch pedal arrangment is a full cable setup. "

That's not quite correct, when the UC was released it used the same linkage set-up as the LH/LX. After the Commodore was released the UC (& the HZ) inherited the Commodore's full cable set-up.

So, from it's release in March '78 to around December '78 they did not have the full cable.

UC's were available with m20's so it has to be fairly straightforward.

Didnt know about the cable setup not happening to dec 78. Mine is dec78 and has cable.

I thought UC's had MC6's. I have two of em here. Dunno why, nobody seems to want them, but they also went into the VB Commodores, so can't be too bad. Maybe we can organise Chopper to pick one up. Don't think I have an MC6 shifter though (will have to look).

uc had m15,m20 and mc6. not sure of whether the mc6 replaced the m20 mid model run or if the m20 only ended up in the 202s.

Never heard of an Mc6.... I take it these were just a 4 sp?
Thanks for the offer Pat, I'll keep you in mind. I'll sus out what nick this M20's in and see what it needs (clutches etc) first.
I know it's got a bellhousing to suit 202, but I'll have to check the cable set up.

Thanks for the help guys.
Much appreciated.

Keep it going if there's anything else to add!
Cheers

One of the MC6's came out of a bog stock UC 202. Got stolen and torched, then donated to the Club, so yeah UC 202's also came with the MC6, which later went on into the VB Commodores behind the 202's. Don't know if it continued on to VC or VH. Dr Terry would know I'm sure.

Dunno where the other MC6 came from. Gearboxes seem to just appear at my place.

Hi Guys.

The MC6 box was officially called the Torquemaster 4-speed & was also known as the Filipino box, as they were made by GM, in the Philipines. It was 1st seen behind the 1900 Opel 4-cyl in the LH & LX & in the UC they were used alternately with the M20 Aussie box. It was also seen in 4 & 6 cyl Commodores up to & including the VK. They are not a very strong box, but the later ones are much better than the original 1975 versions.
