Did they make that system entirely from scratch?

They did a 3.5" system from manifolds back for my Cross8 a few years back. Made from scratch.

Judging by the number of welds it looks like they have bends pre-made, not sure if they bend on site in their spare time or have them made elsewhere, then they weld it all up piecemeal otherwise it'd be a one piece pipe from flange to merge collector then two one piece pipes to the mufflers.  I'd say they weld the flanges onto the pipe on site, the merge collectors are also pre-made.

The whole system isn't something they ordered in one piece if that's what you mean, it took them a few days, the first day they told me they had to get in another TIG welder, something was up with theirs.

Nice one.

The shops around here told me there guys were not sklilled enough to be making systems from scratch. Just bolt on off the shelf stuff.

Good to see, some shops around the place still employee skilled workers.

Greg also mentioned he could custom make extractors for me.  The engine is a 302 with 351 Cleveland heads and as far as I know only one company in the US makes extractors for this arrangement. They're a 4 in 1 arrangement and you have to cut into the shock towers to fit them.

Greg says it is tight but he could make up extractors in sections so I don't have to remove the motor to get them off. He can also get them ceramic coated to stop them rusting as well cutting down the heat in the engine bay by half. They're a little too expensive for me right now, not sure if I'll get them.

I think that's the difference between a true performance shop and a franchise.

Cool!! Yeah my mate run into all sorts of issues getting extractors made to suit the BBC in his HQ coupe. It has raised port heads so the off the shelf BBC/HQ extractors dont fit....

The options were to ship the car to a shop in Brisbane, or get the off the self BBC/HQ extractors and modify them to suit then send away for HPC coating.... was an expensive excercise in the end.

The joys of living in a hillbilly town I guess.
