G'day all,

I thought I'd share some of my old photo's and bits that I've just dug out of a crate. I was really looking for some pic's of my old LJ and found some other stuff of interest. These pic's are dated in the mid 80's to early 90's.

This is the starting point for my fascination with holdens, my first car was a 68 HK GTS Monaro in Warwick yellow. I had recently turned 17 and bought this restored coupe for $4350 in 1984.  Chose this car because my tradesman at work said Holdens are best and a good little engine is a 186, so the search began.

This is the ad for the car.

These were some other ads I'd obviously kept but because this Bathurst 327 had a thirsty V8 I wasn't interested. (idiot) He was having trouble selling it for $6800 so the price dropped to $6700

One arvo I was at Hungry Jacks in the carpark and this guy came over for a chat, he was the new owner of that 327 and we discussed having some photos together.  This was one of my favourites.

Used to got down to Scarboro Drags (carpark about 100metres long) and hang out there on Saturday nights.

Started showing the car at the early Holden shows and won my category.

I soon relised that owning a show car ment you can't live a normal life of a teenager so I soon had a Torana to drive while the GTS stayed covered up in a Garage.

So now the shed was starting to fill up with Holdens.

Attached File  Shed cars.jpg   42.94K   4 downloads

I loved this car, it was so much fun, taking it camping and just driving the arse off it.

This was my attempt at a mini resto, got a few spare panels and started rubbing it back.  Then one day when I was spraying the under coat without a mask my hands started to cramp-up and go weird. That's when I deceided to hand it over to the experts.

Talk about coincidence, I found these ads on the back of the Monaro clipping

Getting the cars out on the lawn for a clean.

An old clipping about the shows. Anyone recognise any names on these?

I remember seeing this at Oran Park in '88 and thinking, that is beautiful, now I see it differently.

That's my trip down memory lane.

Cheers

Yeah, I read yesterday on Makas Monaro thread that you had one the same. :-)

Who is that twelve year old kid standing next to the monaro

I did have trouble reaching the pedals, I put a couple of blocks under the seat feet so I could see the road. (seriously)

I also found this sticker in a folder, should still be OK, kept in the dark and cool spot. God knows why I bought it but if someone out there can show me their thread and that they can use it, it's yours.

I forgot to mention to the younger crowd, with a Hot Torana comes hot chicks, so be prepared for this added bonus.

Unfortunately life has its twists and turns, kids come and cars go.
Out of the two cars I preferred the torana for its handling and size (could see over the bonnet) Monaro used to wollow all over the road at high speed. Loved the look of both.
Monaro sold for $4500 in '94 and the torana which I paid $1750 sold for $5500 in '97.

If Torana's were still those prices we would've all saved ourselves a small fortune, or if we had kept the cars we used to own.

Wow $3.25 for the Torana sticker, and a genuine Holden one too, I bought one a couple of weeks ago from Rare Spares for $9.50, that's progress for you
