possibly ignition switch
^^^ Agree, most likely the problem lies in the ignition switch not the lock barrel.

The ignition switch is further down the column it is attached to the key barrel by a wire rod. It is made out of white plastic with various wires plugged into it. The return spring is inside this switch.

I had this problem when putting my column back together.
Turns out the ignition switch that attaches with a wire rod inside the coffee pot that Derrin talks about is a rectangle type thing which is has silver coloured metal on one side and beige plastic in the other with a sheathed set of ignition wiring attached.
This whole thing attaches to the column with two small bolts.
The switch has elongated holes to allow the switch to be adjustable.
Like your ignition, mine wasn't springing back as it should after being turned to start, but loosening the bolts and moving the ignition module down the shaft a little before re-tightening them cured this.
Hope this helps.

Hey Guys, I could be wrong but I think his problem is with a VZ Commodore ignition switch not a Torana.
