HQ 1 tonner with factory V8

my friend is trying to register a hq 1 tonner with a 304 v8. the RTA in NSW is refusing to register it with a v8 as no HQ 1 tonner came out with a v8 according to their records. Apparently HJs dont apply they want an engineers report from him. Is anyone aware of any 1offs 1 tonner HQs with a factory v8? We all know the sedans came out with v8s but what about the 1 tonners?
thanks.

Initially, the full range of sixes (173 cid/2.8 litre & 202 cid/3.3 litre) and both versions of the Aussie V8 (253 cid/4.2 litre & 308 cid/5.0 litre) were offered, except for the One Tonner which was limited to the 173cid/2.8 litre six. The 202cid/3.3 litre option was added to the One Tonner in November 1972.

There is also stuff up higher about how they couldn't use the V8 range because of the length of the drive shaft required.
Obviously they overcame that problem, but judging by that article there is no such thing as a factory HQ V8 One Tonner.
I'm no expert, but that's what Google told me :-)

Beat me to it haha.
That truckjungle article says the 253 V8 was made optional in Feb1973 and the 308 V8 was finally introduced to the 1 tonner as an option because of the Ambulance in August 1975.

Haha you must have had more patience than me Dave, I couldn't be bothered reading the whole thing.
Does it say what motor it had on the tags? If it has a code someone will know what motor it originally had, but it may not have it depending on when it was built.

This has been a problem for a long time. Rego authorities have their heads up their areses and have NO IDEA about what they are talking about. At release in 11/71 there were only 6cyl tonners. In 2/73 you could get a 253.
HJ a 308 was not officially available, but they could be ordered. The first documentation I have seen on 308 1-tonners is for HZ, it is in the features manual and it'll be in the ordering procedure. The 308 only came with TH400.
There are a few mistakes on the truck jungle page, i'll talk to Mark Oastler about them. I'm doing an article for him on C20-K20-C30-C50-C60 Chev trucks at the moment.

Hey Craig
Seeing as the 253 V8 was introduced as an option for the HQ 1 Tonner in 1973 then any HQ Tonner with a factory fitted 253 will have L32 on the body tag.

I've probably got ID tags here for 0260 model HQ's (ie V8 cab chassis). If I don't someone else I know will. Parts catalogues list the V8 model 1-tonner, and even show it in the identification section (but it has an error and shows 11/71 introduction). I even have HQ sales brochures that show V8.

Being blank it means it was originally the standard engine for that model, so it must be an 80260.
