I recently broke my gear shift column housing, just replaced it with the new on that arrived in the mail yesterday. Now I'm trying to set up my ignition barrel with the long rectangular piece of metal that connects to the little cog, (not sure how to word it any better? Yet me and my mate just can't seem to work it out. It's kind of urgent because its my daily driver.
Going to check my Haynes book when I get home from work this afternoon.
If anyone needs better details I'm happy to explain more, just in a rush right now. Cheers

The following thread may help somewhat. LJ, LH, HQ, HJ all basically the same setup

He asked what I needed to know: "Is there a trick to aligning the rack gear for the IGN barrel and IGN switch?"
But I couldn't find an answer

Install the flat spring in the rack channel in the coffee pot.
Install the steering lock bolt to the rack. See pic below.
Install lock bolt and rack assy up into underside of coffee pot. Lightly lubricate back of rack and flat spring with some Moly or HTB grease.
Now install rack drive gear onto pin in end of ignition barrel housing and align large tooth on gear with corresponding large space on rack. See pic below.
Push the gear onto the pin until it locks into place on the pin. Also lubricate the gear pivot pin before installing the gear.
Now install coffee pot to steering column.
Set the ignition electrical switch into the lock position and lock it off with a 3/32" pin inserted into the locking hole in the upper end of the switch housing.
Now install the switch onto the lower end of the ignition actuating rod and bolt the ignition switch onto the steering column.
Next take your ignition barrel and insert the key into the lock. Install the ignition barrel into the housing in the coffee pot in the lock position.
Apply light pressure to the ignition barrel and turn it until the barrel engages with the drive gear and the retaining tab on the barrel casing clicks into place.
Now loosen the ignition switch on the column and ensure the ignition key is in the lock position and remove the key so the ignition remains locked. Tighten up the ignition switch to column bolts and remove the 3/32" locking pin from the switch and presto, all done and adjusted.

Should also add, lightly lubricate the steering lock bolt and the rack teeth.
edit: I'll post up details tonight of a tool people can fabricate that makes installing the upper steering shaft circlip a snap.

Thanks for your help mate.. We finally got it all done. What we did was slid the cog through the ignition hole in the perfect position to splice with the rack and then pushed the ignition barrel in and bingo! Lots of fiddling.. Not planning on taking it all apart again any time soon haha.

I am having problems with installing ignition barrel back in place. Doesn't seem to line up. Goes in most of the way.
Thanks
