Test with spark plugs on the ends of the leads and earth the spark plugs to the negative batt terminal via jumper leads.
tried this today and I'm still not getting any spark.

Bolted it on & i am still not geting any spark. Module tested ok.
So pulled the module off & put it on a spare bosch hei dizzy that i hadnt used for maybe 8 years... & still no spark.
The coil is new but could it be faulty?

Are you getting any spark at all?
If you want to test your coil put a plug on the end of its lead and earth it.
Disconnect the wire to the -ve terminal of the coil and run another wire from the terminal.
While checking for spark on the plug put the wire from the -ve terminal on and off an earth repeatedly.
Dont however have your fingers near the end of the wire.
As you put the wire on and off the earthed surface you should get spark directly from the coil.
Hope that makes sense.

When i earth the wire that connects to the negative side of the coil it sparks.. But im not seeing any spark from the plug lead. I have earthed by puting a spark plug on & siting it on the negative battery terminal

If the wire to the coil is sparking it means the coil is drawing power. Be careful with it. Induced voltages can hurt. If you arent getting spark out to the plug then you have a problem with the coil.
Hopefully the plug lead is ok?

The ignition coil housing is earthed properly?

fired it up with a spare hei.
this hei dizy wouldn't start with the old coil.
it also has vac advance, it has been curved to suit a auto 308 with 750 vac secondarys.
should I remove the advance or will I get away with blanking it off for this engine?
its a manual 308 torque power dual plane with 750 speed demon

Ben, you mentioned between 2-5mm for forwards play in dizzy shaft, mine has about 10mm. Is this bad as the drive gear is in good condition, the rotor is spring loaded still but the excessive play has got me worried, in regards to timing issues. Thanks for any help!
