Was the silver highlight around the dash fascia actually paint or was it some type of vacuum metallizing? I have a feeling that it was the latter of the two and I believe that after time the aluminium flakes of leaving the 'faded' white look of the exposed plastic underneath.

The process is called vacuum metalizing. It is a different process to electroplating or chrome plating.Spose it begs the question, How do you chrome plastic?
Do a Google search, it will explain it better than I can!

There are ppl out there that "rechrome" plastic dashes, however because the LH/LX dashes are so fine when it comes to chrome area, no one is willing to try and redo them..
By the same token, if someone does find someone that will redo them, let us all know..
cheers

stick it on then trim it off with a sharp knife and a steady hand. I will see if I can get some and give it a go
