hey guys,
thinking of upgrading my 4spd to a 5spd gearbox, just wondering what are my options, im not making too much hp, nore am i gonna to thrash it (much) im interested in the celica boxes on ebay, or if someone has one here? or something else? dont wanna pay too much.
my questions are, what mods need to be made to accomondate for this gearbox, it will be behind a 186 engine. just the bellhousing and speedo cable?
Need any clutch mods?
Cheers. appriciate as much info as possible.

bellhousing, clutch plate ,spigot bush, speedo cable ,cross member tailshaft and yoke all need changing/modification.
if your running an Lc or Lj you'll also need a forward shift to clear the handbrake.
this is a common conversion and company's like dellow and crs do kits for these.
or hunt around and get a 2nd hand one

ok here my 2 cents worth.
in an lh/lx/uc, you can use lc/lj tailshaft .... that sorts that out.
hydraulic clutch, heavy as, wears out the master cylinder fairly quick too ....
if you have the mouse trap setup you'll problably be right, otherwise i suggest getting a cable bellhousing for the celica box.
lh/lx/uc you need a modified crossmember, this is a trimatic/aussie 4 speed one modified (i dunno if any other ones are made)
and just for good measure, my celica box with dellow bellhousing - its the one with the 3.28 first gear, i think you can also get 3.50 first gear, maybe thats just supra, either way, 3.50 is #@$^%&!!! avoid it!
