G'day All
Well onward towards Hobart from cloudy Ross Town and the bleak weather looked like it was following us
Raining again which was only fit for ....................... Quack Quack
Heard a tap tap tap at our motel room back door and there they are waiting to come in.
Morning dawned upon us the next day and the weather started to clear up
One of my most wanted to see on our trip was the Huon Pine Valley and where the Huon Pine boats were built
But first we pulled into the tourist centre
To have a LOOK around
Weather was still a bit cold so no wonder we ran into an Eskimo at the centre
On our way to the Huon Pine boat building we had to pull over to get directions
BUGGA me, just behind us where we stopped was this little gem sitting in the front yard
FINALLY we found the Huon Pine boat building centre and of course, some one had to pose alongside the hand operated drill press.
No electric drills here.
This is where the famous Sydney based Japanese chef Tetsuya Wakuda had his cabin cruiser made. (build cost about 1/4 Mill)
You can sponsor a boat build and they like the sponsor to be a part of the building team.
They also have apprentice ship-wrights there and their workmanship is second to none.
This is how the the rivets look when they affix the side panels together
There is a guided tour of the establishment and not one tiny piece of boat building information is left out.
To sponsor a dinghy build like this will cost you about $3.500 but there is no where else where you can get craftsmanship like this and also be a part of it.
Alas the interest in boat building does not suit everyone
If you ever take a tour of Tassie then this is one place not to miss out on.
Next, Mount bloody cold Wellington and Port Arthur AND more GHOSTS
