Prussian Blue is what Ive seen used for that. Its just another name.
An engineering supply company should stock it.
Its a lot like the ink out of a biro in colour and consistency

Yeah i use Perusian blue or bearing blue for a lot of things, good for checking contact patches or simply smeering around a face that you wish to mark accurately with a scriber.
Autobarn stocks it, tiny tube lasts for ages. Superjunk/ripco probably do to.

Wow Thanks Niel, very helpful...
Yea I tried bearing blue/Persian blue but it didnt show up the pattern very well, First time ive done it but it certainly wasnt as clear as all the pics ive seen with the Yellow stuff.
This was best guess at where the contact is? (can just see the outline in red)
Ill grab some yellow stuff and see if its better. Or maybe someone has some tips on how to get a clearer reading?

that's the reading Clint, and pressure wipes the blue away better, also I think the pinion is not hard up on the pinion bearing, I could be wrong. Dave I

Yeah the blue is not so easy to see but a lot cheaper. Make sure you place some load on the gears when turning, I normally just put a handle/lever of some sort against the centre to provide a bit of drag. Also maybe put it on a bit thicker to begin with

Reading the blue, you have nailed by your red out line, in saying that the diff isn't correct, I assume that's why you are marking it up
