Hi Guys,

Last week i invested in a holley HP 125 to quieten down the ridiculously loud fuel pump. Went in fine and can barely hear it but i only got 2kms down the road and the motor run dry of fuel. The fuel pump was still buzzing away but no pressure at the motor. Waited a few minutes and it just re-gained pressure. I ended up removing the reg and blowing the line out and still had the issue but not as frequent and seems only when i put my foot down. When the problem happens i remove the feed line to motor from the fuel pump and after a half a second delay, it starts pumping again. Filled the tank right up and it seemed to be working fine until yesterday after driving slowly up a steep hill it cut our again. The bloke From Chris Mills is thinking it could be gravity feed issue but its in the same spot as the existing pump which never had this issue, i am thinking maybe its backing up some how to 7psi and stops pumping as thats the cut off for these pump.

Any Suggestions, Cheers

I use the HP150 in mine and it sits below the tank but it still won't self prime , I would say it's something before the pump causing you problems

If only there was some sort of pump that didn't make any noise, was reliable, didn't need a power supply (powered by the engine perhaps?) and would tolerate the occasional gulp of air without dropping its bundle...

One day maybe, but until then we can only dream...

What if someone was able to invent a mechanical means of pumping. :stirpot:

But that's the stuff of science fiction, surely?

Seriously, we are our own worst enemy sometimes in our inability to resist shiny, billet anodised bits that really don't do anything worthwhile. How many threads have been posted here asking how to fix problems with an electric fuel pump/gilmer drive/electric water pump/MSD/chrome rocker box? These trinkets seem to cause way more problems than they solve.

Agree.^

If I didn't get a noisy Holley Black at the right price, I would still be using a mechanical pump.

Unfortunately there's not to many mechanical fuel pumps that will keep up with a 10 sec street car same goes for standard ignition systems .
I find most problems with all this unreliable performance parts is more often user error

Oh puhlease.. there are easily available mech pumps that'll do 200gph, and I don't consider an N/A drag car to have a particularly taxing ignition requirement either. Half a century ago people were running 10s with mech pumps and points n' coil...

Thanks Mumbo, what filter do you run. I have heard these pump can be picky with the filters. Happened to me 3 times last time I took it out and seems to be more prominent when the tank has low fuel in it.

I use a 5" long Aeroflow 60 micron filter , it's big and free flowing

And do you run it before or after the pump

Before , the hard part is mounting the pump low enough if your running a standard tank it's not easy but the lower the better

But we like shiny things............I fell for the lure of a shiny thing once. Lasted 5mins of ill fitting before i chucked it
