Did LC's have them?

 

I know on my old 4 door I got them wired up, and I don't think my current 4 door has them, but I noticed they are mentioned in the wiring diagram for LC.

 

Hoping to take the GTR over the pits soon and don't want to miss out because of something silly like that.

Yes you will need them. When I took my LC over the pits they checked.

yes as blair said,,, all opel 4 speeds had a reverse switch.

All Holdens built after 1st Sept 1966 had reversing lights as standard.

Would the column shift would have had them at the bottom of the column and not on the box?

Yes, column shift autos & column shift 3-sp manuals had the switch at the base of the steering column. 

 

Floor shift (& console shift) manuals had them on the gearbox.

 

Console shift autos had them on the shifter mechanism inside the console.

 

On automatics, the reverse switch was incorporated with the inhibitor switch.

So if I had a car which was originally wired as a trimatic how would I go about hooking up the reverse lights?

It depends on which model you've got & what type of gearbox you are converting to.

OK, if your LC was a column shift Tri-Matic it has a switch at the base of the steering column, near the firewall.

 

The switch has 2 plugs on it. The plug with the 2 purple coloured wires is the inhibitor (neutral start) switch. It just needs a bridge to connect one purple to the other.

 

The 2nd plug has 2 green wires from memory, one light green & the other dark green. This is the one you need for the reversing lights. Simply run 2 wires from this plug down (thru the floor) to the reverse light switch on the Celica box. The polarity doesn't matter. Job done !

I think the Celica box has 2 x pin connectors on the switch which take the bullet shape crimp lug sockets. Been 20+ years since I did the same, so memory might be wrong.

My LJ has a 5 spd celica and the reversing lights do not work, where do I start to look?? Cheers.

jack the car up and put some axle stands under it,pull the wires off bridge them and have a look,if the lights work its a crook switch,if not use ya multi meter or test light to see if there is any sparkles there,if yes then check at the sockets down the back end (might be bad connection in the light sockets or earths,if no [power at the switch terminals the start to look at fuses and connections at the base of the steering column
