Hey guys, finishing off a project car for a customer, its a WB One-Tonner. he had a heaterbox in the engine bay with all the aircon gear on it, but is not running air-con and his taller rocker covers were touching it so to neaten up the bay and provide more room I suggested fitting a heater box without aircon as I had seen them on HQ's etc and are much smaller...

Problem is we cant seem to find a WB heater box without aircon? did they all have A/C?

Found a few "HQ" box's but they have the heater pipes coming though the middle of the box where the WB one the pipes were seperate and below the box so as far as I can see from pics on the net a HQ box wont fit??

Is it possible to fit a HQ box and fill in the heater pipe holes in it and all is well? OR does a WB specific non air con box exist?

Oh and just to confirm im talking about the box in the engine bay which houses the electric fan...

Cheers

You should be able to find one easy enough . Plenty of WBs didn't have air-con.

All W size (HJ-WB) were the same. Factory A/C cars are different under the dash as well as under the bonnet. The extra holes are drilled down low for the A/C heater core, and they are always rough as guts (like they were chewed out). If you fit a non A/C under-bonnet bit you will also need the under dash box and the controls (as A/C are vacuum operated). Plus the ductwork under the dash is all different, so you'll have to replace all of it (whole dash has to come out). Don't forget the fresh air ducts too, those are different on the A/C cars, driver's side has a blanking plate. When you put the cable operated (non-A/C) ones in put something on the hole where a screw is missing as A/C have 3 x screws to hold the fresh air duct in (passenger's side) and blanking plate (driver's side), whereas the cable operated fresh air flaps have only 2 x screws and the other hole will rust if not treated.

You also then need to get a new lower dash fascia as the A/C cars don't have the slots where the air duct operaters go.

Lastly put a blank grommet in the spot in the middle of the firewall where the A/C vacuum hose comes out, and weld up the big slot/holes where the factory A/C heater pipes come through the lower firewall.

Almost forgot, A/C cars have a vacuum operated hot water valve, you'll have to replace it with a cable operated one.

Most WB's wouldn't have air

All Statos should though

Plenty of non air boxes out there but as above... will need to make adjustments
