I have recently purchased a 76 LX SL with a 202 red motor. I am looking to put a performance inlet manifold, down draft carby and extractors to give the old girl a bit more. Any other easy mods to do for a bit of power gain? Not looking to go all out as I haven't decided to build a hot six or go with a 350 chev conversion. Cheers!

Best exhaust you can afford is the first step. Has to breathe out before you can make it breathe in. Port match the extractors, make all exit joints smooth.

Check the brakes aren't binding, caliper kits are cheap and easy to do... and cheap insurance.

High compression head if it doesn't already have one, and good fuel and tuneup.

Onya for asking the 'experts' :driving:

I've always found 202's need a modified camshaft , to prevent them dying in the arse at 3500 RPM .

Cheers lads. I had thought about the high comp head and a mild cam.

What is involved with match porting? I take it you would need to give the head to a machinist?

It's important is stop the engine from shaking apart and breaking. Dowels pins in flywheel/ crank, flywheel/ pressure plate. Upgrade the flywheel bolts to 7/16 but a waste of time if you don't fit dowel pins. Also fit a bolt to the front of the crank so the balancer doesn't end up through the bonnet.
