Sept 73 seems a bit early to have a runout because a new model was coming. The new model (LH) was still over 7 months away.

Back in the day when my street car was a HR Holden ute, triple SUs etc life became miserable when the LC XU1 was released and this XR Falcon GT beater was getting blown away on a regular basis in traffic light derbies ( ah the good ole days!) by these things, off I trotted to my local friendly Holden Dealer in Greensborough to buy one of these things. The salesman looked me up and down and said you probably can't afford one son, I showed him my bank statement and he agreed that I could, BUT , ( he said) you might like to know what insurance will cost you before we write up the deal. Now if memory serves me I seem to recall the car was just under $3000.00, the insurance for a snot nose P plate driver about $1500.00. Far out I said. Ended up buying one of the new fangled Mazda RX2 rotisseries $2300.00 on road, the insurance companies asked about $150.00 PA to insure as they said it was only about a 1200 cc motor LOL. OH the good old days, when $2.00 would 3/4 fill a Holden fuel tank.

No wonder the Dealer in Adelaide put the 308's in LJ Torana 'S' 2-Doors, with the Insurance so high on the XU1

Yeah the mere mention of "Those 2 letters combined with a 1" to insurance companies were an instant black flag / $1000+ p/a premium "even in the ole mans name"... It's no wonder there were plenty of mock-ups running around during the 80's, And some with bent 8's up front... OHHH how quickly 1 learns that it "Never did pay to advertise you owned such an animal to anybody", Even the g/f's always had a mouth on em & a bad habit of constantly flapping their gums at most inappropriate times......
