Wonder how many have survived that have been stolen

Probably more than should have, due to incorrect tags & re-birthing/shelling practices......

Knew a few older blokes that had several toranas, monaro or old holdens in the 80's to 90's....most got their cars back short time later either thrashed to hell or stripped of the good bits on side of the road.
Previous owner of my lc gtr had it taken twice I think out front of his gf,luckily it'd be rolled down the street or nearby somewhere.
Surprisingly most of the blokes they knew that had a GT rarely got anything back at all.Similar with mini cooper things.,
These days we wouldn't be so lucky to get our cars back...they'd be targeted & hidden on purpose by relentless thieves.

I remember reading an article some time ago about XU1s what to look far when buying/ condition etc. One sentence made me chuckle "if it hasnt been stolen at least once it's probably not a genuine XU1"

Hi all
I mentioned one day to my optometrist that I owned an XU-1. His first remark was "how many times has it been stolen?" As it turned out, he had one back in the day and it was stolen 3 times - he never saw it again after the third theft. Most of his mates who owned one had theirs stolen at least once also.
Cheers

Got told a story of a bathurst xu1 that got stolen twice in same day.
Found it in carpark first time, took it home & locked in backyard then got taken again that night to be found with car theif known for xu1 theft...he took it home, they found it there with another stolen xu1.
Owner swore car was a jinx it had that many attempted break-ins or been taken several times he had to sell it.

Had a LC GTR years ago that cost about $2000.Insurance was $1200 a year which i had for a while but didnt renew.
Of course that was when it was stolen.Got it back the first time but the second time all we found was the stripped and burnt shell.

My experience in Victoria in the 80,s, were wreckers selling mostly complete cars, stolen and recovered, from Sydney auctions. I think because they were making a quick buck, and it was just a matter of rwc and rego in Vic. even though it was written off in NSW.
So you see why there are still so many around considering they were stolen so often. only smashed ones getting reshelled

My LX hatchback which was and is still a nothing car (6cyl auto SL) got stolen 3 x times. I got sick of it in the end and parked it and never drove it again.

I remember when i had my LX Torana 4 door,i went out to get something from it only to see someone trying to break into it...dumbarse didnt realize that it was unlocked(one of the rear doors was unlocked)...it was in daylight, outside of mums house...
When my brothers mate was looking at a L34 to buy in the mid 80s..the insurance company said "pick any other car than that one!!!" Insurance was so high he didnt end up buy it.
Ive interupted a tow truck trying to pick up my Monaro i had once....i was that close to losing that car!!!!

I remember when i had my gtr,it was always parked at my mothers house,on the nature strip in front of a telegraph pole with a street light.I always disconnected the battery and had streering locks fitted, was always broken into, but they couldn't take it,i always found it un locked in the mornings for about 2 years or so,and it never happened again for the remaining 7 years that i owned till i sold it and bought something better.
Regards John.
