Hey Guys

Instead of using bolts on my A9X bonnet scoop, i want it glued down so that it looks like it’s all one piece.

I have seen it done on a couple of cars at the shows and i think it looks great.

Can anyone tell me what type of application we can use to glue it down to the bonnet?

Thanks

Yep, Sikaflex. Good luck in trying to get it off at a later date. Make sure you use the adhesive type, not sure what number it is, eg: 222 or 242 or whatever type there is.

Maybe your thinking of a blended bonnet scoop?
Have a look at Alfa they do heaps of that work.

How about counter sinking short bolts into the underside lip of the scoop & fibreglassing over to hold in place, drill thru the bonnet & bolt up from under the bonnet as normal?..

I think some of the blended bonnets you see and fiberglassed on.

I know a guy with a Brock bonnet scoop Sikaflexed on to his VB. Works good. Not sure I would trust it on a forward facing scoop though.

I guess you use the builder's adhesive one.

I think the builder sikaflex is called Trex.

I heard that stuff will never come off.

Counter sinking could be a good idea. Im not sure if there is enough meat on the scoop though to counter sink.

Something like this. I cut the bonnet hole then pealed the skin back so it can slide underneath. It looks a lot better when it all blends in :fighting: :driving:

FOR frOckS SAKE GUYS!!!

Sikaflex is a product of Sika corp, Kinda like Loctite.

Saying "use Sikaflex" is like saying "use Loctite"

Err, which one?

THeres like 20 different Sikaflex products, a few hundred Sika products, same as theres a few hundred different Loctite brand products.

Sorry about the rant, but its one of my pet frOcking hates.

OP: You want Sika 221 or Wurth KD Bond.

Either of the above polyurethane sealants will do perfectly.

Cheers.

You could always glue studs to the inside to bolt it down...

Common bomber, at least around my parts, when sikaflex first came out, you had a problem, any problem the pun was "sikaflex it".
Anything else is just a copy.

Don't use the one from the Sex Toys shop whatever you do.

Just ask that weird looking bloke with the moustache and the big nose in Bunnings. He'll sort you out.

Id recommend not to glass mine lasted for over 20 years but killed the original bonnet.Expansion contraction moisture creates rust = dead bonnet. But now you can get flexible resins to move with metal.Maybe if we applied the glass just to the flange face it may have been different for rust.Age changes your preference to molded look.I now have done the concealed bolt deal and glassed over to give a sitting there look.Bit of mucking round to get scoop sitting freely to bonnet with out gaps but I'm happier with the result than the glassed bog look bolts and cleaning rags don't agree with me.Also having a couple of these scoops its a good idea to reinforce with glass the flange face to side at cowl side of opening seem to like to crack there.
