I,m curious as to what all the forum members with lots of knowledge know about the one piece star patterned "GLOBE" style wheels that HDT used through some of the A9X period?? I've heard some stuff on them??  I had something similar previously on a 1tonner.

So what was their origins? who made them?  sizes???

and  wish I could find them and buy them back

Performance wheels make a very similar wheel these days called the Challenger:

They're not a bad wheel but offset options are limited.

I thought the original "Globe" mags were made by a company called "Samson Industries" and were in a suburb of Adelaide not far from Holden's factory at Woodville.

That's a great website. Like the way you can see every variant of each wheel.

This style of wheel was used on GT Falcons and was made by Globe. Whether they actually had "Bathurst" as a model name, or if was it was just what everybody ended up calling them I don't know.

Have a look here.

These aren't the same as what was used on the '79 car though as the centres are dished in on the HDT car, and they are dished out with the Globe wheels.

These are the Performance Challenger's, 15x8 and 15x10. The wives choice (her car) plus i can't afford Hotwires.

I would have preferred Hotwires or Simmons but these have grown on me.

I've grown a bit tired of the Hotwires. Maybe we could meet at Port Augusta and do a swap!!!!

I don't dislike the "challenger" style wheels or the "Bathurst" style ford globes. But what I really wanna know about, is does anybody know anything? more specifically about the wheels HDT used???? anybody??? i think they were on the 79 Bathurst 05 at least??

Just gotta love the wide sprintmasters and even the lil 4 spoke for Datto, Just goes to show they were available in many widths / diameter back in the day, So where are they all today as seldom see anything other than 13's with occasional 14's but only ever in 5.5--6" widths, Globe offered them up to 15" diameter which I wouldn't have thought there too many vehicles in this country running that diameter during 70's--80's... Again with the Bathurst Globes = weren't aware of anything other than standard widths until Performance took the reigns and started making 8--12" wide rims in similar design as originals... The racing Globes ^^above^^ may well have been "special order" when they were used by the likes of Brocky, And probably marked as Racing Use Only on rear of rims... Just like the sprintmasters they really suit Torana And Wider has to be Better "Right" ???

I believe they were magnesium and not aluminium, therefore would have been "For racing use only"

This is a pic from Harry's funeral yesterday. The No. 1 car had similar wheels to the hatch above but were 2 piece like Simmons. I could see no identifying marks on the outside of them. Sorry for the crap pic.

I doubt they would have been advertised, Too wide & flimsy for road use so in my opinion they too could have been "Special Order & Racing Use Only"...

Ok, the wheels used by HDT were made by Commonwealth Aircraft Industries, not Globe. They were actually based on the Ferarri rims. Globe copied them for the Phase 4 wheels which went onto the phase 3 falcons.

The Brock 79 car never actually used them, in 1979 HDT exclusively used Jongbloeds.

These were specially made to Harry Fiths specs from magnesium alloy. Good luck getting them today. The L34 above uses Simmons machined and offset to look like the original HDT rims.

thankyou all for your info. that confirms some of which I had been told. I had a set of these globe style wheels at one stage, on my one tonner, they were a one piece casting of magnesium I believe and couldn't be welded or repaired due to the fragilty of the maggy. which I believe also doesn't age well?? (this is prob why there isn't any around anymore). from memory they were 15x9 1/4 and 15x 9 3/4. and off a racing car previously. I was told they had trouble keeping air in them because of the porous nature of the magnesium, so they used to run tubes????? I blasted and painted them in a metallic gloss 2k which seemed to cure that prob. when I had them I wasn't aware of there history or fragility, and hence was happy 2 sell them when I sold my ute. I am trying to track them down to see if they are still in one piece. on a side note????? I had heard a story that Brock refused to drive one of the restored xu1s until the owner pulled those dangerous magnesium wheels off it?? it may have been at sandown I think???????????anyone?????
