I bought myself a LX hatch for a new project on saturday and it has a 5 speed in it.
I assume it will be a celica or supra box but have no idea on what they look like.
I am hoping that someone here can help me identify it without me having to pull it out.
Reason being is I intend to sell the running gear a little later on down the track and think it would sell better if people can test drive it first.

Also any idea what i should ask for the full conversion?(box, crossmember, tailshft etc) box changed fine and was not noisy but there was not much travel in the clutch so i think it is worn bad or in dire need of adjustment.

not sure if I put this in the right section ? mods feel free to move it if not

Cheers
mick

you can see the celica has a steel case (the black part) where as the supra is all alloy and slightly bigger aswell.

well done sammy, this question has been asked many times before but your response seems to be the clearest and easiest.

Just my 2 bobs worth, but isnt the first celica box the same as the supra? I mean, i have the same box in the pics which is a celica, but mine definately came from a supra. I've heard them refered to as celica/supra. At least thats what the gearbox guru told me when he said dont fit it to the 304 or i would blow it up.

hi coolngroovy,
I think are right,
have been told the early model celica and supras shared the same gearboxes,
but as the supra was developed,
and had bigger more powerful engines installed,
a different gearbox was developed to handle the power,
esp when they turboed the Supra.
I had a toyota gearbox in a HG Monaro,
that looked like a Celica box,
once pulled apart was shown not to be the case,
had extra sissor plates on the gears,
and a few other thing like bearings.
Was an early model supra.
Still a good box.

Cheers
Chris
