The 160 thermostat that's in there , I'm thinking .........May be to cold and the engine is not getting any where near its right running temp.
What thermostat are most people using or recommend.

Hi Wayne,
I like 90 degrees,
you can tell how your Motor likes a Temperature, by how it acts at the rising Temperature. Dave I
not sure what the correct temperature is though
here is a Read:-

Early Holden thermostats were 180F (82C) as standard. Later pollution models were hotter to aid in emission control. in the cooler months a standard temp thermostat (or slightly hotter if you want) will make sure your heater works well and in summer when you don't need the heater a colder one may help the engine run cooler. No thermostat at all can cause the hot water to pass through the radiator before it can cool enough and the engine can run hotter not cooler.

Engines have a thermostat for two reasons.
First reason is to get the engine up to operating temp as fast as possible (remember, most engine wear occurs when an engine is cold) and the second reason is to maintain a specified minimum operating temperature within the engine.
Once the thermostat is fully open it's up to the water pump, radiator and cooling fan/s to prevent the engine overheating.
