Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of tidying up my engine bay and this includes putting kits through my carbs and retuning them etc.

I've heard that if you use air filters there will be less induction noise than if you use ram tubes, can anyone verify this and how much difference would it make. I'm currently using ram tubes with mesh filters on the end, my car's very loud so any noise reduction would be good.

I recently read that if you use air filters and then change to ram tubes that you'll have to change the jets in the carbs because they force more air into the engine which without changing the jets will make it run to lean. If this is correct you'd need to decide on what type of filter assembly you want before spending money getting it tuned.

Apparently some of the K & N filters can fit small ram tubes inside them which would still give the effect of the ram tubes, very expensive though.

I'm trying to keep my car looking mostly original and not modified, so if I can achieve a factory style set up with the webers it would be good. Valiant Chargers are a good reference to do this. To do this I'd consider using air filters from a webered Charger or something similar, these are also expensive though.

What experiences has anyone else had with their weber set ups?

My SU's were rebuilt built and he never asked me what filter setup i would be using. If rams make the carbs run lean you could always adjust the mixture?

Difference between no filter and filter? Minimal if any, i never noticed a difference personally. What mesh filters do you use?

I hate those damn socks. Try really hard to have all the throat inlets linked into a common airbox.
