we got radar trailers in western sydney this week.
they consist of a generator trailer like the light ones road workers use but with a small read out screen on top. their purpose is to tell you your speed. if your speeding a red and blue light flashes then a message in red pops up to say slow down, and then gives you your speed.
the government has installed these moblie trailers along with the new campeign that was decided that this will help stop bad accidents.
i thing they are a drilliant way to check your speedo as they seen very accurate.
PB 86.
have you got them yet.

How refreshing to hear there is NO camera inside :)

Better not say that too loud or the bastids will put one in there.

Cheers

Been on roadworks for ages. No use going really fast though, as they won't give you a readout above 80km/h. Young dudes used to see how high a readout you could get from them.

when i put my car back together i wanted to check my speed coz the times i am doing the speed limit every one seems to be passing me with big smiles, any way after i did it i asked one of the local coppers when they were putting the trailer out next and told him why and he said they werent very accurate, so go figure

they have had them in sa for ages.
they pop up regularly in school zones, on the highways, and at Pt Wakefield in the school holidays.
We usually just try to find out how fast we can go past them
cheers

I have seen them in Melbourne for years as well. The ones i have seen show if you are going to fast, they swap between the speed and 'SLOW DOWN' quite quickly. If you are doing the speed limit or less they flash 'WELL DONE' or something similar. Most of the time they have something like 'Limited to 75' or something like that depending on the speed zone they are in.

accuracy of these units is questionable, I know when i was in melb for a visit there was a bit of a thing goin on about how wrong they can b.

but on the same note anything to reduce accidents cant b bad.

Ive seen these around various parts of sydney int eh past 2 years or so.. Theyre usually set to read about 15Kph above the posted limit maximum.

I think theyre just another waste of time and money..

I used to use the speed sign on the Hume Freeway at Wodonga to check the speedo.
It is limited to 119kph....... :(
But then, Vic cops would shoot you for being faster than that anyway, hehehe.

hahah, I passed one on the way back from eastern creek drags a few months back. I came barrelling down a hill and suddenly saw this big red light come on flashing 108kph at me! I was releived to realise that it wasn't a camera.

hahaha, well what do you know! I was driving to work yesterday after reading this thread and what was sitting on the nature strip!?!? I chucked a u'ie and went back to see what kinda reading I could get outta it. It only read 80km/h in a 50, but I was doing much better than that. As said by others, they must be capped.

Stoopid arse things, as said above, all they do is inspire people to play silly buggers. I'm sure my mates will be down there this friday "testing" out the sign.

We have had 2 of these in town.I think they were donated to the council.
I reckon they are excellent, particularly in school zones. Lets face it, we all need a 'reminder' every now & again. Even better is the reminder doesnt come with a photo!
On the weekends, they are used for advertising events. Bloody clever that council!

We had one in our area a while ago and some locals thought it would be funny to relocate it to another street.
