Hi guys,
I had a request to put some pics up on the Builds thread, I'm going to guess it's this one and go from there!
I have a HR holden ute, I haven't changed anything on it yet (except for the addition of a disc brake front end, and the purchase of deep dish Torana rims and HR hub caps in good nick).
I found it in a shed on a farm and bought it for a promise, that I would keep it in the shed.

Original pemberton grey, mephisto red interior
Unfortunately, not the original motor - has a 179 in it. Hoping to find a 186S and put it in there instead.
I think the original motor was a 186 - I found, on the old tailgate, two even holes on the left hand side. Looking at pictures of the utes, some have a 186 badge in this spot, so I'm guessing the old badge fell off.

This is what it looked like when I first found it, and how it sat for 20 odd years

And this is us starting it for the first time since it was put in the shed

Before starting to strip the grill etc off and put the disc brake front end on

And what it looks like at the moment (no different except it has a lot more parts + new tailgate, spare wheel door etc)

Good luck

186K prefix is what you want for a HR if you want an "authentic" engine as per HR X2 or 186S. But i'd just grab a 186A prefix engine, heaps around still. Or use the 179. PM Craig (73BATHXU1HTBATH350) for parts, he'll probably know where some are.

I don't really want to use the 179, my plan is to do the HR up as original as I can to any specs from 1966/67, including any premier specs I might want to include, so 186S it is!
I have talked to Craig and he's going to keep an ear out for me! Thanks for the engine prefix numbers, that helps a lot

I wouldn't bother paying big $ for a 186K, just use a 186A and put the 186S stuff on it, plenty of this stuff is around. I'd also use a trimatic, easy fitment, reliable and no floor mods. Can be made to look original too.

Nice buying mate. Should make a ripper project. In my oppinion who cares about the letter on the block. Its not 100% origional and its not a bathurst monaro or anything. Just bang any old 186 in it, a pair of x2 carbs or the ww 2 barrel that the 186s had. I dunno about you guys but i dont go around car shows looking at the letter stamped on the block. Paint her up the origional grey, lowered a little bit on thin white walls with hub caps and youve got your self a wicked car. I am a little bias as i had a pemberton grey hr panelvan with red trim and x2 carbs lol. Good on you mate hope it comes along nicely for you.
Cheers jake

Here is a complete cheap 186 from a HK in Dundas. Has a HK 3spd behind it too.

G'day Again

The holes in the tailgate for the badge, are they 47mm apart and not aligned ie not in a straight line

Badge like this would fill those holes

186-badge.jpg

Mmm, just gave it a quick polish up with my jumper and it comes up fairly good, only needs a drop of white and black paint in those square bits  :spoton:

It's yours if it fits those holes

Barry

Hi Barry, I can't measure the holes right now, but they are not aligned so I can't think of what else would fit them! I would love to take the badge off your hands, I will PM you
yel327 Thanks for the ebay link :)
