So I have a non stock 202 in my LX Torana that has the Prefix VL which I understand can be a red blue or black according to this
http://holdenpaedia.oldholden.com/202

So Trying to work out further which one it is has been a bit of a endless journey. My Number is VL1512##  just wondering if anyone would have a better Idea what year or car model it came out of as the VL Prefix is so general.

Something else when the bloke I bought it off told me it had High Comp Heads, I have looked at the threads on Heads on this website I can confirm I have H on my heads but it looks like they are the Red Heads because the H is stamped at the back of the head.

Wondering if its worth rebuilding this Engine if it is a Red 202 with VL prefix or if I should bit the bullet and go 308.

Any help would be great!

150000 is a VC or WB engine number, approx Sept-Oct 1980. Being VL it is a VC high comp 3.3. These have a low comp head standard, and the original head will be a blue 12 port.

As above.

Should be a blue motor. So it will have the better crank and rods and the like.

Its always a better idea to work on a Holden six than fit a filthy veeate.

Whether you should use it or not depends on the LX. If it is a later one with ADR27A then fine, but if it is an earlier LX with only ADR27 then although rarely policed, to the letter of the law you have to upgrade the car to the same pollution specs as the VC had in your State. If you are starting from scratch and you need to change the gearbox, radiatior and exhaust in the car you'd be better off spending your money on a 253 or 308, car will be far more valuable when you sell it. But it is your choice in the end!

Interesting information cheers! was a bit concerned with the heads having the H stamped near the back close to the firewall not sure whats going on with that. But thats great information now I can look at getting things sorted out a bit more.

H is the small chamber head off a 149, 161 or 173 (or XU1).
