I believe it is Tuxedo Black, as per the A9X's but in gloss.

Tuxedo black, however, it's not available, and noone I have ever come across has a mixing code for it. Midnight black by PPG is the replacment for it.

Hi,

I have a local paint shop here that still uses old 70s paint catalugues. I got 2 litres of Tuxedo Black, (only GMH black I could remember at the time). It has 1K001 on the lid,

Regards Simon

LCXU1, if you have the paint MIXING SOLUTION (not the paint code) for Tuxedo black, I'd love a copy. I have all the 70's Dulux books, and they list Tuxedo black, but give no soloution for it, just blank lines.

Hi,

I'll go see my paint shop this week, it's run by a holden nut, Rob McPherson, he has had XU-1s EH, now has a Brock Commodore. Think he's the only reason they still have the codes,

1K001 is the BERGER code for Tuxedo Black.

the code is one thing, but getting a "mixing solution" is another thing. Anyone got one?

REDA9X is correct that a mixing formula isnt listed in any formula books or microfiche as Dulux and other paint suppliers back in the day supplied these paints directly as a "premixed".

Basically according to a knowledgeable painter i work with that was painting in the late 70's, all Tuxedo black and a lot of other blacks were just a Black that only consisted of the Deepest Black tinter they had in the paint system. All you could do is ring your paint supplier and order how much you needed and you got it.

The only way to get an accurate match in colour today is to find an Orginal Tuxedo black car to colour match to and get samples of Deep Black tinter from various paint companies and do some sprayouts and see which brand is closest.

I'm guessing as PPG took over Dulux's paint range that there replacement as REDA9X pointed out would most likely be the closest match.

Its not only Tuxedo black that doesnt have a formula for it in old books a lot of other Blacks from different cars and eras have the same situation.

Yep, exactly what Pete said, so buy PPG Midnight black, it's the replacment for Tuxedo.
