Got a blue slip today on a camper trailer and Got charged $43.10 for a blueslip, that's all good. But then there's another charge "Design Check – without Compliance Certificate $28". Anyone know what this charge is for? it was on a camper trailer.

it was last registered in February

Looks like a double dip;

$43.10 for the rego check with a Cert being issued for for the RTA.

$28.00 for the check w/o a Cert issued for the RTA.

If you wanted the first, I be asking for the later to be refunded as it is seemingly incorporated the first.

Cheers, TB

Rang the RMS,

When undergoing a blue slip apparently it undergoes the design check to check it meet specifications. If i had the specification sheet from the manufacturer then I wouldn't have been charged the extra fee, or AFAIK.

why not ring the place you got it from first ?

Just wanted to know the reasoning before i rang them, in case the fee was incorrect and they just palmed me off with some bullshit excuse.

Hello Shane,

Good work finding out Mate,

there is always a new fee, hey,

either rising in price, or they invent a new check.

Surely they would have access to Car Manufacturer's specification sheets.

I remember the Days where the Inspector knew everything.

What's a blue slip? More ways for government to get money out of you?

It's the NSW equivalent of an over the pits or Regency inspection for unregistered vehicles. The colour of the form is blue.

The government doesn't get the money, the mechanic (or the company he works for) earns the money.

yep... except in NSW you have to have one done every year, not just at a change or registered owner like in Queensland....

The yearly inspection and certificate is called a Pink Slip, Blue Slip required if vehicle has been out of rego for 5 years, Vehicles newer than 5 don't require either......

Something is not quite right here.

To my knowledge a design check is only required if it is modified in any way.

If the camper is presented exactly as the factory built it & it has a proper compliance plate (with the correct cert numbers etc.) there should be no need for a design check.
