Hi guys,

This is the engine bay pic of the LC XU-1 that Modern Motor magazine did a feature on in November 1970. I am wanting to know what the red bracket is above the rocker cover, connected to the heater hoses, near the pull back spring. Also why it is there and how it is connected?

Thank you for your time.

Regards

Pauli

hi there pauli

fist of all welcome to the forum,,,the red bracket? tape is a none original item to a LC XU1, however the clamp and spring was a added extra to the 1971 CK BATHURST cars,, was this spring added by owner or gmh? well that is something i have never found out,,,but i have seen this added extra on many CK cars, i beleave the reason this was added was to stop the heater hoses brushing up against the last pivot arm of the carbys,,  in saying that i have never found a part number for this item.

now to this engine bay, Pauli i hope you are not restoring your YELLOW DOLLY LC XU1 around this engine bay??? as there is a lot that is not right there.

when this mob [ MODERN MOTOR MAG ] wrote this artical in 1970 they would have still been a bit raw and would have really knowing nothing about these cars.

this engine bay to me is not that of an original LC XU1,, but it is a close to good example.

cheers gong :D

PS by the way pauli dee [CABS ARE HERE]

Just to clarify the answer to your question Paul, the item to which you refer is some red insulation tape that has been put there for some reason.

As for that spring, there is an 8/70 LC XU1 in central Victoria that is one owner, and is totally untouched other than a set of kidney bean mags, and a replacement diff centre after the original blew up in about 1973. The owner isn't a forum member (not sure if he has a computer even). The car has that clamp and spring. (Can't say if it was there, from brand new though; maybe a dealer fitted it at Holden's request during service. But it is there and looks 40+ years old ).

Hi all,

Thank you so much for your info. I am not restoring my XU-1 as it is a one owner unrestored car I bought off the original owner 12 years ago. My car is a 9/70 and also has the bracket and spring, just wasn't sure about that red tape, cause mine doesn't have that.

Thank you all so much, wish I found this site earlier.

Cheers.

puali dee is a character from jersey shore a tv show and when there going out for a night on the town he always yells them words...

now back to the car in the pic,,, i dont beleave this car is an original xu1 and by chance it is it has had plenty of work done to that engine bay,,, the bracket you refer to is just a radiator hose clamp and the spring is that of a gear box folk return,,, they were not an original fitment to the 1970 xu1 but a lot of people took the ball and run with it,,, as i said earlier i have seen these on a lot of CK xu1s but have never found a part number for them.
