G'day all,

Just wanted to suss out how everyone has their LC/J Torries set up for straight line stuff.

I'm about to pull mine apart and have a play with it, and when it goes back together I'm keen to do a bit of racing. It should make roughly 350rwhp n/a and about 450rwhp on the bottle, and I'd be stoked to run 11s aspirated and 10s with the spray. It'll be on a 235/60/15 drag radial, as I'm told that's the biggest you can fit without mini tubs, so I'm keen to optimise the suspension to get it to hook as best I can on what is a relatively small tyre.

It currently has Pedders 90/10s in the front and Pedders Sports Ryder shocks in the rear, Pedders lowered coils all round and no swaybars. I've been offered a set of Koni adjustables for the rear secondhand for $200, and they seem pretty popular without having to go to the expense of something like QA1 rear shocks.

I've heard that stock 6 cylinder springs are the go, but I reckon it might ride a bit low in the front with the V8. I've got a set in the shed so I could always give it a crack. What coils are people running for drag racing?

What about trailing arms? The McDonald Bros upper arms seem like good value at $300 a pair. I also read in another thread on here that a company called PMT Fabrications in the states do upper and lower adjustable arms for LC/J. They'd help get the wheels centered in the guards to fit the 235s and also provide some adjustment, but I can't see them on their website (the LH/X arms are on there).

Tell us about your setup and how quick you've gone on it! I plan to drive it a fair bit on the street but I'm more interested in getting it to work well at the track. I've driven it on the street for years with 90/10s and it hasn't bothered me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Broads

That's how you do anything from here, good Man Andrew.

Nifty trick with the "site:www.gmh-torana.com.au" in google, too.

Just change the word/s in front of it to suit your needs.

Std 6 cylinder front springs, Pedders 90/10, std rear springs with spacers under them, std boxed lower control arms, adjustable upper arms with the same rear shocks as yours. Have you tried the 235's on the car yet? you may have to trim the front of the arch. You might have to lift the car up a bit to keep the tyres off the body.

Et=12.71@104 mph with 235/60x15 M/T with this setup.

Thanks Warren.

Nope, I haven't tried the tyres on yet, but I have a set I can borrow off a mate to try them on. When you say trim the arch do you mean the outer part of the arch? My thing is pretty low, so I'm conscious that I might have to raise it. Fitting the stock 6 cylinder springs in the rear should jack it back up a bit. What does yours do to the 60 on a prepped track? I should come and have a look at how you've done yours when I'm home next and bludge a few setup tips :)

Cheers,
Broads

Just had a look at your profile pic - based on that you've got it hooking pretty damn hard!

1.69 is the best 60'.

The door is always open, so feel free to come & have a look.

Hi Broads,

Very close to Warren's setup.

Pedders 90/10

Standard rears springs

Adjustable McDonald bros upper arms

Pedders sport rider rear shocks

Boxed in lower arms

225 Hoosier drag radial

On a prepped track

10.7@125 mph

Hope this helps.

Cheers Mark. 10.7 on a 225 is impressive! I've heard good things about the Hoosier radials. Maybe I should try a set of them in a 225 to avoid cutting the body. How much power are you making? What does it do to the 60? Moroso slide says 10.7 is about bang on for 125mph, so you must have it dialed pretty good.

On the right track as to what to do especially adjustable rear arms, boxed lower arms 90/10's front, sports rider or cheapie rears etc.

Only thing I'm against is using std 6cyl front springs simply because they drop front end down way too low, well that's happened to mine when dunking a efi v8 in it.

V8 springs are basically 1in raised springs that once installed gives you std height.

std rear 6cyl springs be good to find, for front maybe get softer front springs but raised inch or so due to extra front end weight of engine.

She'll sit fairly high in rear to clear 235 so may as well stick with drag radials while n/a
