I bought this a few months ago, a 1978 Sherpa T 350 with a Sammy Miller Hi-Boy frame. It's my first trials bike and I can't believe how much fun I'm having! Everything else I've ever had has been all about raw speed and it's beautifully relaxing to just plonk along quietly and be able to go damn near anywhere. It mightn't be fast but it's still satisfying to be able to conquer hills that turn back the young'uns with their flash new enduro and MX bikes.. I'm still trying to build up some basic skills but hope to be entering some classic trials soon.

Nope. Any tricks I do are purely unintentional, less than graceful and always end up with the bike and I going our separate ways

But I don't care, I'm having more fun than I've had for years and it doesn't matter that I'll never be a Tony Bou..

I recently bought my first dirt bike, a 2002 KTM 520exc. Its been great fun and opened up a whole new world of learning about small engines and first aid. :-)
Should've done it years ago.

I did trials riding a few years back, even contested a few South Australian Titles on both Solo and Side Car.

If you want to do some training the best way to gain some balance is on a BMX Pushbike.

Another thing to do is not watch where your front wheel is but look ahead at where you want the bike to go.

Make sure you drop the tyre pressure right down, from memory we used to run them at 15 or lower.

They are a shit load of fun falling off them is always so graceful..........not

Looks great, I have been competing in trials for longer than I care to think. Currently I have 4 Bultacos, one 1972 M92, two 1979 199A 's and a very rare [in Australia at least] 199B that is nearly back together. The good thing about Bultacos is that you can basically get any part you need and they are almost bullet proof. I also have a 2014 gas gas racing 300, and an FJ Holden that I really need to start working on. Contact me if you need any help with the Bully - by the way your handlebars look like MX bars not trials bars which should have a rise of 5 1/2  or 6 inches only, measured centre to centre.

Cheers Greg

Yes Rob is a brilliant rider and not just on a trials bike either. He really is a versatile rider who looks comfortable on any type of bike, a real natural, not to mention wining a couple of Australian Trials Championships along the way.

Yep, I had a ride with him and a friend of mine out West Wallsend once, damn good, and unbelievable in a Bob Cat..  represented Australia at the Trials De Nations too,  I think..   Ive also seen him stunt ride at Maitland Bike Show....    he Bunny Hoped a Suzuki 1100 Bandit over 4 Gladiators ..  I've seen him at the Motordrome, take the front wheel and forks out of a trials bike and ride it around...                  all of this was a while ago now.... sadly . :(   but fond memories  ....  :)

Thanks Greg. I got my first Bully nearly 40 years ago (a Lobito) and have had a fair few since. At the moment I have the 199 plus a Metralla you can see here http://www.gmh-toran...ove-of-my-life/ though it looks a bit different now. I'd dearly love a MK5 325 Pursang but they don't show up very often. You're right about the bars too, I'm fairly tall and the bars that came on the bike were a bit low and gave me a sore back. So I fitted the 6" bars in the pic - not strictly correct I guess as they're a bit narrower but I find them comfortable and I can squeeze between trees easily. Put up a pic of your 199B when it's finished please - I think they are absolutely beautiful.

As an mid 50's aged rider I found this video pretty funny yet 100% true to the way I feel about riding. Enjoy.

Thats actually a pretty inspring vid for someone like me who is a bit past half way there...And although having a few thousand hours of motorbike riding under his belt still hasnt mastered riding a dirt bike (shamefull i know)

Might have to buy myself a nice manageable 125 or 250, as opposed to the only dirt bike i've owned so far which was a Husky TE 510 that scared the frOck out of me and i promptly swapped for a much easyer to ride CBR900RR Fireblade....

Get out there and learn to actually controll a bike not just guide it...

Cheers.
