Hi all i have a HJ Holden 253V8 ,i have bolts in at the moment on the housing but appear to be longer than standard and are packed  with spring washers ,the original ones listed for the thermostat housing cover are SP2030 can anyone tell me how long these are ,i would like to get some originals if possible if someone has any lying around ,thanks Paul.

Simple way to measure them is pull the bolts out, clean hole with compressed air,use sophisticated measure tool such as

a nail and put in hole and mark with thumb nail at top of thermostat housing, they need to be a tad shorter.

from memory one is shorter that the other,i just used to modify the some original valley cover bolts with a cut off wheel on a grinder, they have a nice big flat washer built into them.

It is part number SP2030 which is 3/8" 16 x 1 3/8" with lock washer. That is 3/8" diameter, 16 threads per inch, 1 3/8" long. It may be a current Holden part number.

Just be careful yours hasn't been drilled and re-threaded to a bigger thread.

As above the HQ-HJ inlet manifold bolt is the same thread but is 1 5/8" long. It has a flanged head (so needs a washer added).

Thanks yel327,and eunuch ,i ended up getting some stainless ones off ebay ,and will see how they go ,thanks again heaps for the sizes yel.http://www.ebay.com....984.m1439.l2648 Any idea on torque wrench settings for these? maybe same as water pump setting which is 22lbs .In the workshop manual it lists  2xSP2030 for HJ253 V8 so i assume they are the same size?

Yes, same size. Be careful of torquing up stainless bolts, they can bind. Not a good mix will alloy either, may end up corroding in place and not be removable.

Will the stainless steel react badly with the alloy? In that case i will try to source some originals ,what are the originals made of?
