After 29 years it's time for new front discs on the HJ. Have new pads and fluid but still not as good as they have been. I measured them and they are 24mm and 24.1mm so time to go.

I fitted new DBA's to the VN last year, one failed after 13,500 km. Found out they're made in China... what isn't these days, but where's the QC!

Have the chance to buy RDA brand on TradeMe.

We're coming over for the GC 600 next week and might get them there, it appears they are solely Aussie owned, but made in China to strict rules.

Is there an outlet on the Gold Coast that sells RDA?

Cheers!

Im also looking at new rotors, but solid units for my HT. (the thin ones)

Are the drilled and slotted ones worth the trouble?

And if not, what brand is best.

Cost is not an issue, I just want a quality item.

Sorry for the thread steal, but I was just about to start my own thread when I saw this one at the top of the page.

Put a set of slotted RDA  rotors on my Commodore 2 years ago and removed them after a couple of months absolute junk IMHO  vibration and feedback through pedal was terrible .

I have always found  DBA  to provide a good product but sounds like you have had issues with them Dave.

I am sure Datto will have some sound advice on rotor choice ,the  VY SS wagon I have now owned since May which had "all new rotors and pads" when  I bought it is giving vibration and feedback already so will be looking at replacing them shortly too.

My mrs works for RDA & they're great...but of course I'd say that...
....so I'll make you a deal, if you test drive the RDA's & still go with the other guy....I'll give you $200.

Bahahaha, I just saw that ford add haha.

But seriously, both companies get there rotors made overseas I think but I know that RDA drill them after they are slotted over here so at least you know one part of the process is done here in Australia. Both will have good & bad rotors from time to time, it just comes down to personal preference.

If your after some specific info I'll ask my mrs...though she's just gone on maternity leave as we just had our first baby but she can still chase it up.

Cheers, Nig.

Congrats on the baby Nig!

What exactly was the failure?

Slotted will definitely be an advantage in this case since the rotor is not vented. Will help dissipate gas and dust produced during braking to reduce fade, when used with quality pads of course. Drilled rotors have their place but unless you are a hard driver its not worth the cost. Also, too many 'drills' will weaken the rotor.

RDA are banned from our workshop due to issues with every set we ever fitted. Poor castings, warped easily and often, some suffered from DTV.

Recommend DBA, Protex and IBS are ok.

Quality pads such as QFM and Bendix wont let you down.

I just bought new T3 slotted rotors 120 series Landcruiser Prado rotors for my 2010 Hilux. These are Aussie made, other cheap cr@p is Chinese. I am happy to pay $210 each for the Aussie made ones. Check, you may find Aussie made ones for a HQ-WB available. DBA list a 4000XS and a 4000 T3. The box my 4x4 ones came in had "made in Australia" on it.

Stay away from the drilled ones Craig

Not worth the effort

Just use slotted ones

Ive had mixed success with all brands since eveything comes out of China nowadays

Sadly we are getting what we pay for and its all cheap and crap

Protex and IBS rotors are the same thing from the same factory... both companies now owned by Metcash

RDA PBR and DBA all say they have their own factories in China

What they have as far as I can gather is someone that flies over semi regularly to check quality control

But they don't own the factories

You stand a chance with the DBA's if you choose the 4000 series... they cost more but they are treated and slotted locally so they have a better chance of picking up imperfections and getting it right rather than just importing boxed rotors

You can buy the HQ rotor undrilled...I got a pair today for someone... so they might still cast this one locally (didn't read the box/rotor) so a chance they will be better quality.

Far out, what have we done to ourselves when we cant even cast up and machine a rotor for a decent price.

Thats old stock Craig

Has the old pattern they changed from years ago

He's selling them out at his cost... and throwing in the free freight

So those should be aussie made ones

Congrats on the baby Nig!

What exactly was the failure?

The inner bearing cup started moving around. I went to replace the 'crook bearing' when I found it. Had about 20-30 thou play... sideways! The new replacement had the cheap cup in it too, that came out and had the new Timken cup installed first. I keep all records as far as date/mileage/cost etc. Found out DBA was Chinese made, must have buggerall quality checks.

Oh, congrats here too! My girls are 15 and 17 now, can't wait for them to leave! Too much attitude, too precious, no respect or manners allowed! (schools are crap)

Enjoy the early years.

My new pads are TRW semi metallic. Made a slight difference, hence the need for new rotors... not enough 'bite'.

Have the chance also for Brembo, $200 the pair.

Leaving tomorow, will have a squiz around on the Coast before deciding.

I'll chuck a wave atcha if I see anything worth waving at! :buttrock:

Got my old stock DBA rotors today.

The box says Aussie designed and engineered, with the "Made in Australia" logo.

I will pass on any unexpected dramas.

Well just fitted TRW from Repco. Down from $193 each to $75 each??? Heaps more feel/bite/stop. Still waiting for the old std pads to bed in but things are looking real good so far. I'll try the TRW pads later, but not expecting miracles, removed the high performance pads from the wifes VN and fitted new std Calibre pads with a much greater stopping force. Miles and date recorded so will know how long they last.
