Would a reco 2bbl downdraft Weber 34 ADM or similar be far superior to one of these in terms of atomisation and economy etc on a mild Holden 6 ?

That's a strange carb it looks like a cross between a WW an a early Carter
To answer your question wouldn't touch it
A few questions to ask yourself
1 does it have a power valve circuit
2 where would I get jets to set it my engine
3 what is the CFM, Venturi size, butterfly size

A Carby must be rejetted to your engine, with Weber easy job with Holley easy job

What is your engine and specs and do you want power or economy
My pick from least to best
1 WW 280CFM factory
2 32/36 weber 300CFM better than a WW
3 34 Adm weber same as above! but having electric solenoid and a little less CFM
4 350 Holley can be ok if jetted and set up otherwise heavy on fuel
4 38 Weber 380 CFM the best of the down draught DGM webers good economy and good power

Are all the 38s synchronous and does that make a big difference to economy ?

I was more interested in progressive type carbs.

I have an old (what I think to be a) 32/36 here. How much horsepower can they feed ?

The 2 carbs are similar
The 32/36 is progressive with 26/27 Venturi will be better on economy than the 38. About 300CFM
The 38 is synchronous and is twin 27 Venturi better response and about 380CFM not as good on economy
Both can have manual or electric chokes, both are cheap for jets and rebuild kits( 34ADM is very pricey for rebuild kit)

As to your On the side of the carb down near the butterfly will be the ID, send me details if you like. As mentioned in a another post I rebuild webers in my spare time

Thanks for your help Muzzy.

It's a 32 / 36 DGV - 5A. Other number is 10 - 6B.

I've had it for years. I always assumed it was too small as it came on a 12R Hilux donk.

It's a good one 5A is a pre emission one so better jetted
It should have a big mixture screw comes in at an angle from the primary
The biggest issue is the throttle bushes, can you move the linkages up and down?
A 5A can be either manual or electric choke?

Manual choke. Everything feels pretty tight.
