Get a twin horn set up if you want to stay street legal, (hi & lo note horns together).

Maybe scour a late-model wreckers for a horn.... most of the ones on new Commodores, Statesmans, even bloody barinas have effective horns for scaring blind pedestrians out of your path!

Cheers

I got a set of old school 3 chime air horns. They just play 3 notes continuiously. I believe they are legal in Victoria, don't know about SA.

Actually.. i was told that an astra has an incredibly loud horn...

Would it be legal to install one of these in place of the normal horn? I assume theyve passed all legality checks?

Its on my TO-Do list for the HQ too.. Theyre never horny enough are they Kaz :P

The astra horn is brilliant ... on suggestion from someone on the old forums I went and got a set (it's a dual tone one). So it plays those two tones and the old baffled sounding one that came with the car ... it certainly does the trick :)

You'll need the wiring loom also (couple of extra dollars) as the plugs are wierd and proprietary to the car.

Go nuts!

On the subject of horns, I was thinking it would be great to be able to have programable horns, like the V8 door bell. Just imagine if when you pressed the button you could have everything from a Mack truck horn to screeching brakes, to go ahead make my day Punk depending on the situation. Just a thought anyway.

Twin air horns work for me. I have them mounted straight down under the guard beside the chassis rail.

when we do regos, if the car has a standard horn used by the standard steering wheel its ok, just use a seperate button for the air horn etc. as long as the stardard horn works its ok.

^ yeah i do believe you can keep the standard horn and have air horns switched thru a relay to come on as well.

Kaz, we did something similar to a mates car, we wired a megaphone into the engine bay, and had the microphone bit in the glove box. we had some fun with that! we used to drive round with a cardboard body kit on a sikma making blowoff valve sounds! FULLY SIK!

you can buy the "public adress"horn thingos, they have like 30 sounds as well. they are always advertised in street machine and other car magz. i have a tripple tone air horn mounted in behind my front gaurd, just behind the flutes. cant even see it once the inner splash gaurd was put in. just simply made a bracket for the compressor and three horns to mount on and screwed it in. i have my original horn and the air horn on a switch on the under dash panel. so you just switch horns and press the steerin wheel like usual. its pisser when you get mates to "have a look up inside that gaurd at the damage...." then blast the air horn while their head is up under it.
