Has anyone here used one of these? Specifically from this manufacturer?

www.curleys.com.au/products-page/southern-chassis/hktg-holden/

(For some reason this site won't accept a cut and paste of a link or let me insert a link, just locks up if I try)

I've talked to them and they seem to know their stuff. The brakes that come on the HK-HG front end are XA Rotors with VR-VS calipers. Steering rack is BMW. Tie rods and balljoints are all off the shelf bits, only fabricated part appears to be the bit to couple to the column. It all comes Engineered.

The engine shown in the photos on one is a BBC, so you can see heaps of room.

I like the look of this one over the CRS unit as the CRS unit only comes in 2" lowered, but the SCW unit can be built at original ride height which is far preferable on a HK, they don't suit lowering but can still be adjusted a little if desired.

Looking at getting one for a HK GTS, will run a SBC, Muncie and 9" initially but want this front end to make an LS1/2 swap later easier.

I got one in my hatch and a mates been fitting them for years( altho they where from the origional southern chassis works. Curly took over production a little while ago.)They are a good front end. They look far better than CRS ones. I got mine with 300mm UPC brakes on it. They are reasonably dear for what they are tho. Its totally up to you but i found that one of them front ends in a hk,t,g would be a waste of money. With the right springs and drop spindles my hg drove like a dream and it was slammed. I can see the attraction to the rack steering but that can be fitted to the k front end. People have been putting ls's in k,t,g's for years now without a SCW front end. If you had the spare 4-5 ish grand id say go for it. Just my oppinion anyway. Cheers

HK-HG steering sucks, and the racks fitted are rear mount which cause sump and exhaust issues. The amount of money you spend fitting an LS engine with aftermarket and modified power rack, special sump etc, still costs a few grand (probably $3k), and then you have to upgrade the brakes anyway. And then it is harder to Engineer in the end.

I don't want to lower the car at all, I reckon HK-HG look terrible lowered and drive worse, plus the exhaust scrapes everywhere. Drop spindles makes a big difference though to driveability. A standard HK GTS (or V8 HT GTS or HG GTS350M) drive really well standard, just the steering is not great. The idea with this front end is to make the car drive as original, steer better and have better brakes in one package. Fair bit of coin though as suggested.

I see. Well difference of oppinions but i can see where your comming from, i cant stand anything at standard height, gotta be loud low and fast lol. Ive seen alot of front mounted racks on ktgs. Like i said if youve got the budget their a good thing.

My brother just bought a Rodtech power steer front end for his HG Monaro, all made of stainless even the stub axles are stainless. Looks killer, uses a Ford territory power rack unmodified. Very neat and tidy conversion.

I just looked at Rodtech's site, they look similar to the SCW units, looks like a Torana rack for the manual rack. Probably similar cost.

You are right Jake, I'm the opposite, can't stand a car lowered too much from standard ride height. I don't like the tyre entering the guard.

The whole power steer kit was $4500, the rack is a front mounted.
