Fixing a Busted Tunnel

His cant possibly shine a light on the one Ive so gallantly volunteered to repair today.
Its a pretty cool car, an EK converted to a 2 door.
The previous tunnel mods leave a lot to be desired though.
I'll let the pics tell the tale.
Wish me luck as I hold my breath and wade in.

Smuggle me budgies... who the hell did that, it looks like it's been welded with a stick welder?
Is that 5mm plate around the shifter hole?
And what's with the cross-bracing, is that holding the two halves of the car together?
The exterior looks good though, but if done by the same person I'd hate to see what was under that primer!

The car was bought in bits and converted by my mate...I just got the job of the floor.
All that flatbar crap is part of the gearbox mount.
Ive no idea how some people think....

What are you trying to implicate that it's not factory welding ??????

Don't ya love it when someone asks if you can weld, and then proceed to tell you how to do it, like "oh, just weld a plate over it"... the guy that done the original tunnel mods must have his shop down the end of the street.

They fit surprisingly well.
Unfortunately after I chopped out all the crap there were substantial gaps that needed filling before I could start, and the tunnel also
required some tinkering to get it to fit..
But its done now. Just a little sanding and a couple of pinholes to touch up, and I can get onto the engine and gearbox mounts.
So there ya go.
Its a little rougher than Id like, but it will do.

K Rudd would have got a loan from Japan to do it haha.
Enough of this shit, seriously nice work mate.
Atleast one of us did some shed time today.
Cheers.

There are several other patches already in the floors, and the owner isn't too fussed so long as its tidy for the engineer to look at.
Should be on the road for 8k or so.

I had to put a stiffener back under the floor on this.
I used a bit of 50x75x3 RHS and cut it up and beat it into submission in the vise.
Sorry bout the fuzzy pics.
