hey guys,

did a little bit of body work on the torry today, went through a few layers of different paint previously on the body to get it flat. after that i sprayed spray putty onto the repair, one of the many colours below has crazed.

any ideas why this would occur? its really frustrating. the dark blue is the only one reacting

Wow thats a lot of paint...Probably time to take her back to her birthday suit and start again.

Depending on what type of spray putty your using its probably a reaction, "spray putty" doesnt actually exist but lots of people call different products that so its hard for me to advise further.

Perhaps remove the affected area and try some kind of isolator before proceeding on the rest if your determined to leave that crud on there?

Cheers.

I'm assuming you are using Acrylic Lacquer.

You are supposed to apply primer surfacer then spray putty over that.

The Dark Blue that is causing the crazing is probably enamel. As Bomber said you may need to apply an isolator but better off to strip the whole car right back for best results.

If you use a two pack primer filler it won't happen, It is the lacquer thinner in the spray putty attacking/melting what's underneath. What product are you using for spray putty? I haven't seen dedicated spray putty available for years.

High build spray putty by motospray. I know ill cop shit for ising it but its just a trial.

I have gone too far on other areas of the car to strip back to bare metal now, so i guess il have to try an isolator if i go through the layers anywhere else.
Thanks all for your input.

Oooowwwww. Motospray. The blue stuff?

you get what you pay for in paints.

Motospray is up there with the cheapest avaliable.

I have used it on small things for its convenience of pressure packs and weekend avaliabilty. But only for things that the finish doesn't matter on.

Like i said its only for a trial repair, will be rubbing it off and will definitely not be using this over the rest of the car
