Hi All
Have planned this weekend to replace the old chrome gutter moulds with some newly reconditioned ones.

Just wondering if there are any tricks to be aware of in removing the old ones and then re fitting the new ones. Looks like a fiddley job and I don't want to damage the paint work or the chrome moulds.

Cheers

A technique I've used in the past is as follows.

tools you'll need are ; a small flat blade screwdriver, small ball pein hammer or similar, a strong hand and a lot of patience and dedication.

To remove, start at one end of the car and use the flat part of the screw driver head and sit it against the lower edge of the chrome mould. There is a tiny lip there that you want the flat sitting on. Then gently tap the screwdriver shaft outwards so that the chrome mould slowly pops off the drip rail. Don't try and rush the process otherwise you'll kink it. If you take your time you'll end up with the mould off the car undamaged.

To refit;

Sit the top edge of the moulding onto the drip rail, position the mould against the rail and using the palm of your hand, slap the moulding down over the lower edge using a downward motion, most times you won't get it over on the first slap but if you work along it and take your time and maybe even have a second set of hands holding the other end of the mould so it doesnt wander around on you, you'll get the mould on undamaged.

Some people like to use a soft rubber hammer to knock these back on but I think using the base of your hand limits the possibility of denting or ruining the edge the way a hammer might.

Try and use carefully directed hand blows and WATCH carefully how the mould is sitting on or against the drip rail and you'll get there!
